Default EF rust repair question...

Apparently EF's tend to rust in this same spot. I didn't notice this one until I was installing my suspension the other day. Needless to say I was pissed since this is the only place of rust and I thought I had bought a rust free car. Anyway, what is the best way of fixing this spot?

Ouch!, thats a ruff spot(in more ways than 1).
Do you have a welder?, a sandblasting set-up?, band saw or hand held shears?, assortment of air tools and accessories IE:angle grinder, die grinder, abrasive wheels and....
Man thats a crappy spot to have to work, I'm feelin your pain though.
Here are some pics of a patch job I did, it's not a Honda but it should give you some kinda idea of what its gonna take to fix, or you could just use some glass cloth and resin.
get back to HT and let us all know how it's going.

I have hand held shears, die grinder, angle grinder, etc. But no welder or sandblaster, plus i've never welded anything. I just want to get that rust out and make sure it doesn't come back. Will the glass cloth and resin prevent it from rusting again as good as welding in new metal? I was hoping I didn't have to take it somewhere to have it welded, but If I can find someone to do it relatively inexpensive i'll just have it done.

I read your build thread and noticed you had a good amount of time and money put into the project, thus I thought you would want to weld in new metal.
But IMO, and I'm not bashing your your car, you gotta ask yourself if the car is worth it.
the pictures I posted are of a 96 fleetwood w/ the R1P package that I've been working on for a couple years now, is it worth it?, to me YES it is they do not make cars like that anymore.....IMO.
So once again its a judgement call on your part, personally I would use the cloth, you can use 3M abrasive wheels or as the bodguys like to call them "rice wheels" instead of blasting.
Some por15 and a bit of time and that rust will not come back. good luck with it!

Don't cheap out and use fiberglass. It will be okay for a while, and then crack out... Fiberglass does NOT bond properly to metal, that would be like patching a boat with a piece of sheet metal. If you don't feel confident enough to weld in a new piece, itd be best to pay someone to do it right. I'm on my blackberry and really can't tell anything by the picture, ill look at it when I'm home and may be able to offer more advice

I'm more than likely going to end up getting a few estimates for this rust repair. I plan on painting the whole car, but i'm doing that myself. Just have to get this fixed first...

That would be a very wise decision grass hoppa! Just make sure you do tons and tons of research before painting
