Default P0420 and P1738 Engine code..

What are those code? P0420 and P1738.
From what I remember, the P0420 is an O2 sensor being faulty? I've replaced it almost every single year since I've owned the car as a 2nd owner.

I think I just had P0420 on my 97 Accord. If I'm right, this code indicates catalytic converter efficiency is low. The way the computer figures it out is to compare the signals between the upper and lower oxygen sensors. If both of the sensors are showing the same signal within some threshold, the computer throws P0420.

1738 looks like a general automatic transmission code.

Well, I think I kind of know what P0420 is. It's usually a dirty cat or the O2 sensor dead again? (only last about 1 year for a new sensor).

aren't the cat really expensive though? Every time I change the O2 sensor, it will last about 1 year before the code comes back on again. Is there any other alternative besides O2 sensor+Cat?
