Ok, so ive been pricing out turbos because i'd like to eventually put one in my accord after i swap to the H22A. I've been looking around and got the idea to search ebay. and of course theres a ton of $750 turbos on there. Now These are quite a bit cheaper then the $3000-3500 ones ive seen elsewhere. But my question is, Is it really worth it to buy these cheap turbos that claim to have ranges from 1-30psi, has anyone bought one? Obviously the main answer will be "save your money, buy the more exspensive one" but thinking on a restricted budget what should i do?

 

please search before posting. this has been covered too many times. there's tons of people, including myself, who've ran the ebay turbos w/o problems. i've ran a 50 trim for over 5k miles w/o shaft play or oil leaks. you can buy 3 ebay 50 trims for the price of 1 brand new garrett.

what turbo (that would honestly be used to turbo a honda) costs $3000 to $3500? im just curious.

and to the op stick with the F and boost that...you wont have to spend the money on the swap and you wont have to build the engine unless you feel like getting really serious....with the money save you can get a better turbo

 

When using an eBay turbo, would it be beneficial to use an oil line kit from a reputable company (Go-Autoworks, for example)? If anything more, what would you suggest to further the life/quality of the turbo?

its okay if you want 300whp or under.. you dont wanna push it if you dont know what your doing

n im using fast turbo oil line kit
dont use the lines that come with the kit

and were you saying stick with the f22b2? im worried the f22b2 is going to max out at some point and be stuck with lower hp. My thought was that if i get the h22a im starting at 200hp rather then 135, wouldn't getting a 135hp engine to 300hp like alot of the accords ive been seein on here not be all that easy?

 

I've ran a ebay turbo kit on my car for over 6,000 miles now. The only thing that needed to be replaced was the cheap shitty tubular style manifolds that they send you with the kit. I welded mine 3 times before I finally just bought a log style manifold, and havent had a problem since. Make sure you get a good tune though.

 

Will they run they're claims of 1-30psi Boost?

 

I wouldn't know if they can actually hit 30 psi. But I wouldn't doubt it. Im running the 8 psi spring, and I hit full boost very quick so I could see room for more boost.

 

6,000 mile is nothing to be proud of...

Good tune wont save a cheaply made turbo.

 

ebay/china turbos will probably make the power. they just wont last that long.

a buddy of mine did had a stock y8 with a china 57 trim turbo and then he got a good 57 trim garrett and put down the same numbers.

 

I have never ran anything but garret turbos, however a friend of mine has not had the first issue with his entire ebay kit other than the wastegate sticking sometimes and the manifold cracking three or four times now. turbo runs good though.

 

Well the main problem seems to be the Manifold, so if i buy a seperate manifold and toss the Ebay one it should help quite a bit?

 

sure do it. if worst comes to worse youll have to buy either another cheap-o or something else that will last longer

this is a good kit. turbo works great, cast log manifold (no cracking), and the downpipe doesn't need to be rebent AT ALL to work with the manifold like most kits do, PLUS it's a/c and p/s compatible out of the box. but yes get a different oil line kit and make sure the wastegate opens and closes properly first

 

Yeah....that d-series kit will work GREAT on his F22. yeesh.

i have an ebay turbo on my car now if u keep the boost low it will do fine. I am taking it off now for a sc61 because i have out grew it. but i went low 11's with it in a eg coupe so not bad for 180 bucks in my opinion but dont buy one and want to make 400+ and expect it to last for a long time.

 

I've met a "ton" of people who weren't able to drive a few hundred miles with ebay junk. One turbo actually ate the compressor wheel after 1k miles, and it wasn't an oil issue. Same setup has powered a new Garrett for the last year already. They will last a lot longer under 5psi on a smaller motor, but you'll make less power with MUCH more lag than an older 60trim T3 at 15psi. Only one did last a few thousand miles...however, thats because he didn't care about the bluish-white smoke screen his car beltched out, or adding 1-2 quarts of oil per week.


bakerskater11 do yourself a favor and read a few comprehensive "How To Turbo My Car" articles before asking any more questions. It's very obvious you have very little turbo knowledge, and are in the "dreaming" stage. 95% of your future questions will be answered with one of those guides, and have been asked hundreds of times in the searchable honda-tech achives. I am not trying to flame you, but instead get you up to speed with the rest of us.



FYI turbocharging your car for a mile is very cheap. Building a kit that will survive dozens of 1/4 mile passes or several thousand miles is what gets expensive.
