@@@ Can a 4-point harness be fitted on a C-pillar bar??? @@@
Hi guys,
Can a 4-point harness be fitted on a C-pillar bar on a DC2??? ...instead of on a B-pillar..!!
I already have 2 Sparco 4-point harnesses and i would like to fabricate a C-pillar bar and bolt the harnesses on it?
Is it safe?
Have you got any clear pictures of a C-pillar strut bar on a DC2?
.....also, how do you take off the belt cover clip...the plastic part???
Thanks.

I don't know if that point of the car is strong enough but possibly if you made a bar that was just like a harness bar but just using a regular C pillar bar deff wouldn't be safe..thing would prob snap. Harness bars are only like 150-200 bucks.
Is it really necessary to have a roll cage to use a harness?? I see people all the time w/ out a cage..I know if everyone is doing it doesn't make it safe but that's why I ask. I mean I see people mount harnesses wrong all the time and I know it's not safe. I ask because I was thinkin of getting a set of harnesses because the reg 3 point rubs and wears down the shoulder part on my Recaro seat

What is the difference between a C-pillar bar and a harness bar??
What i was going to fabricate is a type of a strut bar, (a pipe) which bolts on the same points where the back seatbelts are, having bolts where i can bolt the 4-point sparco harnesses!!!
I still can see the problem of why it isnt safe??? Instead on the B point of the car, i was going to fit them slightly longer on the C point!!!
Understood guys!!???
I might have misleaded you!! sorry
A C pillar bar goes between the pillars only. A harness bar (or rollbar)offers roll over protection in the event that you do roll over. The danger in 4 point belts without rollover protection or just using a B or C pillar bar is you can severely hurt yourself or even death as your 4 points hold you in place as your roof comes crashing down around you. Make sense now?
Look into getting a Autopower 4pt rollbar or something similar. Stay away from that Cusco crap too.

You need head and rollover protection to wear a harness in your car or else you are risking your life everytime you go anywhere.
You need something like this.

Look into Autopower or Kirks. You can buy one here.

if you were to just get a harness bar it has two bars going down to the floor so help brace the harness bar when belts pull on it. If you were to just use a straight bar in either place I wouldn't think it would be safe.
I understand the roll over thing but what are the chances your going to roll? I'm sure i've seen autox guys w/ harnesses..I may be wrong tho. But would a 4 point cage, the kind that's just in the rear of the car be alright to have w/ a harness or do you need the roll cage to to mount near the dash too?

if your just concerned about the belts wrecking your seats, why dont you just throw on some seat belt pads to protect the seat while you driving
The real question should be why do you need a 4-point harness for the street? It is less safe than standard seat belts when using reclining seats and airbags.
NO.

so you're saying that a normal seatbelt is safer than a 4 point harness??? why???
It's not just about holding you in place. The harness does a damn good job of planting you to the seat no matter where you mount it to. But it needs to be at the right distance and angle to SAFELY protect you in the event of a crash. If you were to get into a head-on collision and the belts were not secured correctly, you could suffer spinal compression. If you roll over, the harness would keep you in an upright position and the roof could collapse on your head. If you do get a roll bar and not wear a helmet, your skull would crack open in a collision. Heed everyone's warning. Do not use the harness on the street.

If you are only autoxing with the harness, it really shouldn't be a problem (assuming it's legal for your autox org).
I had a guy custom build me a harness bar for the C pillar when I was autoxing.
If you're looking to use it on the street or track, you need the cage to keep you from getting squished like a bug in case of a rollover. Rollover never happens? I would say I saw it at every other track event I did (appox 100 track days).
I had a guy build a 1/2 cage and put in a Kirkey racing seat, with a back brace to the cage for my track days.
Then some a**holes from Chelsea stole my ITR...

Have you got any picture of your C pillar harness bar ???
......
im also missing a point, if you had to rollover, wearing a stock seatbelt, wouldn't you still have the same problem of getting squashed??!!!
Some racing groups, like Porsche Club and a few more, require 5-point harnesses regardless if you have a roll bar or not. They are retarded.
The same reason why fixed back seats are not safe without a roll bar. Reclining seats are designed to break before your neck, so you flatten out during a rollover.
I guess I will be the one to ask the question:
Do you want a 4-Point harness for the "look at me I have a 4-Point harness" bling factor, or do you participate in a racing series that requires the use of a 4-point harness?
The bling factor is definitely there with the harness, but safety should come first. Why not just get reclinable Recaro seats for the bling factor? You'll get looks and stares all day with them and still be able to use the stock seat belts. But despite what everyone says here, in the end, it's up to you.

My car is a JDM Honda Integra Type R year 2000....obviously it has stock Recaro bucket seats.
Isn't that more than enough bling for you? I mean we have all given you numerous reasons as to why you shouldn't be using the harness on the street. Are looks really that much more important than your safety? Or are you just waiting for someone to chime in here telling you it is safe to attach a harness to the C-pillar bar so you can live with your conscience? If that is the case, then yes. Attach it to the c-pillar and knock yourself out.
