how much axle movement is to much?
As long as it isn't clicking when you're turning then it should be fine. When you hear a click while turning with the wheel cut all the way (tends to show up in reverse first) then they should be replaced immediately.
yeah, shouldn't be much movement in any direction but maybe a little bit in and out where the retaining clip holds it in. Check the teeth on the axle on both the male and female ends to see if they're unusually worn. If not, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could always have a good shop take a quick look at it too, if you're unsure.

happens anytime i let off the throttle/come to a sudden stop including changing gears, and ive only put on about 800 miles sence the swap and its been doing it ever sence, its a 91 teg half shaft and axles, axles are new and half shaft came with engine, tranny is a s1 from a 90 teg with act stage 2 clutch, engine has soposed to be 40k miles, has gsr cams, url crank pully,dc header, cold air and 2.5 exhaust all the way back. car is 89 civic hb with 240k on it. all work done by me it had a stock blown engine when i got it so i have no idea how it handled/sounded before the swap.
