H22 in 92 cx, need some help
Hey H22 experts. Ive got serious plans for an H22 swap for my 92 CX. But before i start throwing away money i want to be 100% prepared. I want the swap done over the weekend with no trips to the dealer for some forgotten part. So...heres a couple of questions.
1) Which generation H22 is best? Id rather not convert to OBD II
2) What axles will i need/ will prelude axles fit or will i need Integra axles? if so then what year and model is best? aLso what about the mid-shaft?
3) Which radiator is best? and what hoses fit?
4) The engine bay has to be butchered slightly to make the H22 fit right?
If i ever try to put the old motor back would i be able to?
5) Whats the best way to upgrade the fuel supply? which pump is best?
would i need to get bigger fuel lines?
6) How should the suspension be modified to compensate for the extra weight in the front?
7) And last, is there any chance to get approved at a referee station for smog legality? If its a newer USDM motor and everything is hooked up right, does it have a chance? '
I think thats everything. Any help would be really awesome.

ok lets start this biatch!!
1) the best generation to go with is 92-95 jdm of course, you can try to get these years in USDM motors but they will be more $ and harder to find and prob have way more miles, we dont have the 35k limit here in the states
2) you will need 90-93 integra axles and as i hear a 90-93 accord intermidiate shaft. anyone can correct me on this one.
3) del sol radiator with a HAL fan is koo, hondas never have overheating issues. hoses you can use the h22a ones or the civic ones not sure as long as they are long enuff, so of couse the rear hose will have to the h22a.
4) as i seen with 2 friends with h22a bubbles, one used the HCP kit and had to cut up his passenger side mount a bit, the other with Hasport didnt cut anything.
5) no bigger fuel lines are needed, stock pump works fine otherwise if your paranoid then get a walbro fuel pump.
6) you wanna use prelude or accord springs in the front since they are made to handle the weight of the engine already. that should balance things up.
7) if you have no check engine lights, its a clean swap and the guy doesnt pop into vtec you have a chance, otherwise i would just recommend a hookup.

actually Sport Compact Car did an issue with an entire install of the H22a in a EG, i think back in 00 sept or something... geez my friend lost that issue

Just so your prepared........That is a sick swap. My friend just did his and is driving the car daily. That motor is huge and takes up a lot of room, there are also alot of little things that come up because of the fact its a cable tranny and the motor should not be in the car! It is a fast car.....but be prepared for bottoming out everywhere and other small things like cutting holes in the car/engine mounts. Good luck!
if you need anymore info or pics of the swap into a hatch i can send you some, chameleon is correct in all that he said, and the swap is not that bad at all, pretty easy!!!!

not necesarily it all depends how it was done . KSR did mine here and it was a clean swap . I also kinda forgot that I drive a civic so i didn't lower it :D . So no bottoming out . The steering wheel feels very rought when going over bad terrain but u can get used to it , and it doesn't go anywhere it's just cuz of the added weight .
Engine lights from what I understand , there could be 2 . One is the extra EGR since it's quite hard to hookup and i have yet to determine if i'd have any use for it ( I was considering chipping my ECU somehow to disable it ) . The other one is just a code that suposedly most of the JDM engines throw on USDM cars ...
The car also handles very well on stock suspension . Once again keep in mind that I have a sedan so i guess it's a bit more balance than a hb but still . It handles nice , I can't complain . The only thing i have done to my suspension were 2 RACTIVE ( bellive it or not their strut bars do their jobs ) strutbars back and front ... and those did help .
I drive my car about 8000 KM a month . The gas consumtion i average is in between 7.2 and 9L per 100 km ( not that when i got the 9 I was racing 2 days straight and other than that i was cruising fast on the highway ) . What is true thoguh is that I get some bruises on my hands from the steering wheel at times :D . I don't mind them much though .
Another thing u should know is that your center console won't fit back over the new cable shift linkages ... ... ...
Things to upgrade right away :
- exhaust ( 2.5" aparently )
- CAI ( i'd sugest u make it custom because if u buy brand nams u'd have to modify them anywais )
- fuel pump ( not necesarily aftermarket ... type R or others should work too )
- dual core rad ... I have an autokool . Works fine . U can tell it's strugling though . I dunno how this one is compared to the del sol one . Main heating problem with this engine is taht it's too big for the engine bay so it gets phisically hot in there . But the engine itself will stay cool ( knock on wood ) ... it never overheated on me before
...
hope this helps

I will say this now and I will say it again here. Swapping an h22a engine into a 92-95 civic is by no means an easy task. And to think that you will have all the parts in front of you no matter how well prepared you are is a joke. You will always be heading to the parts store because things will always come up here and there.
Here is a general listing of parts that you will need and it will by no means mean its a complete listing..
h22 engine
h22 mounkit of your choice
delsol or ex/si radiator (recommended but no necessary)
upper hose from a 92-95 integra, lower hose from h22/f22 can be used
12" slimfan must be used to clear clutch bleader screw
custom brackets to fit fan to radiator should be made
civic harness used with wires made longer and adapted to fit engine harness
knock, vtec pressuer switch, vtec solenoid, 4 wire 02 sensors all wired to ECU
resistor pack needs to be added if using peak/hold injectors
longer fuel line needed because fuel rail opening is on the drivers side on jdm engine
brake booster hose needs to be modified to fit on intake manifold
custom bracket needs to be made for throttle linkage (used accord linkage on mine)
custom line needs to be run for clutch reseviour (adapted accord line to fit)
if using the jdm p13 ecu EGR does not have to be connected, ECU doesnt look for it
intermediate shaft from an Accord used
89-91 integra axles recommended (custom can be used)
holes need to be cut underbody for shift linkage and to make roon for the shifter
This is just some things that you may run into if you attempt the swap yourself. And that is not including bolts and nuts that wont come off and other stuff of that nature..
Good luck.
