I really like Redback's, they are sold through matco dealers. They are very light, super comfortable, & have a non slip sole. I buy the extra insoles & put them over top of the insoles that come in them. The boots and shoes are cut big so buy them one size smaller than what you wear. I have worn all types of boots & these are the only boots I will wear anymore for work. I almost forgot that they are made out of soft kangaroo leather, & are practically broken in out of the box.
dr martens are my favorite. heavier than alot of boots out there, but super comfy. toe box is nice and wide, so your toes aren't jammed up all the time.
ariat is a nice boot, wolverine, georgia boot, etc.

I needed safety shoes for work (steel- or aluminum-toed), and ended up picking up, of all things, "Sketchers" boots. I feel like a damn teenager.
(In my own defense, they have a pretty decent selection of commercial/industrial shoes.)

Doc marten, and the others make ASTM rated footwear, but they are usually in a different line than most stores carry.
I have a pair of converse sneakers, they're lighter than bots for daily wear, but I've found them to be like walking on planks - just not comfortable. I find myself falling back on my old pair of Georgia Boot Loggers.
Corcoran also makes a very nice line or rated boots, but they're aimed more towards military / law enforcement. Prety pricey if memory serves though.

The Sketchers shoes I have are definitely not something I found at the local store; our organization has a "bootmobile" come by every month so we can pick out footwear if we've gotten budget authorization for it (think a Snap-On truck, for boots
). Mine are ASTM-rated (steel toe, ESD-safe).
