Default Calling ALL BC5 Cammed Motors

I have searched and searched and searched!

These have to be the worst selling cams of all time!
Is it seriously that BIG of a cam that no one will use it?

I have this cam sitting here ready to go and can't find doo-doo for comparison!

If you have had them please post a brief summary of your setup and any comments or dynos.

I have only seen a very few number of people actually running them...come on!

WTF!?!

If nothing else this can be an informative thread for anyone considering them.

They are good cams, but Pro3's are better, more power everywhere, with the same peak RPM HP. I was running BC5's for a few months after my friend took them out of his 86x89 14:1 motor. He was making ~270ish before selling the motor.

Here is the graph of BC5's vs Pro3's on my motor.

I must say that I am very dissappointed with the results from the BC5 cams. I think there is an issue with my map as I have tried three different cams on this setup and all of them share a large dip in the 4800-5500 range. I made a best of 248/167 with my old skunk2 tuner3 cams but the dyno operator deleted it so I overlayed a base run with my tuner3's over the Bc5 cams. My best run with the Bc5's was 239/159.
run 36 S2S3
run 53 BC5

I find it rather strange that a bigger cam would make less power in a high compression/displacement motor.. the car probably needs a fine tune as well with those primaries being bigger than a tuner series cam. Did you get to do any cam gear adjustments with these on the dyno or were they left at 0,0?

Deez, u've cant expect the motor to produce good power running the same map with ANY of the cams u've installed. if anything, its very vivid indication that ur current generic map its not working seeing that u made the most power with the cams that have the smallest lobes. is tuning still an issue down there?

I looked over his Hondata maps last night. Timing remained unchanged between both camshafts. Simply from the change in cranking pressure he described to me, there should be more ignition timing on both the low and high cam. I think he said we was going to re-dyno this afternoon with some timing changes I suggested.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the availability of consistent pump gas is an issue on his island. His static CR is ~13.4:1, and he is running some blend of 89-91 octane. It would require some large margin of error in the ignition.

My two cents.

We basically have no real tuners on the island as far as I know. There are a few guys who try a thing or two like myself, but no certified tuners. I always start with the original map when using a different cam, and do changes on the dyno. I actually dyno on a mix of C14 and pump gas and daily drive on 89-91 octane.

just as 92typer said. i used them in my build also but after we tested them we tested the pro 3's and they made more power everywhere. pro3's were the obvious choice

what were you dyno numbers with the BC5's vs Pro3's? Any track times on your setup?

i would have to do some digging the runs were made on a engine dyno

as far as track times it ran a 12.36 at 113 and the car was having major ignition problems with aem ems at the time and only had about 25degrees of total timing
