Default Front end LOOSE

Hey I have a 93 dx and before I go replacing every single front suspension part I thought I would get some advice first. When you drive the car the steering is extremely loose. Basically if you were driving on a flat road and it all the sudden had a slight slope to the right, it's like someone jerked the wheel as hard as they could in that direction. Same as going left, its scary to drive. So I replaced the inner and outer tie rod ends and that made no difference. Am I corect in thinking it could be the axles? thanks

axles? why do you think that would help?
if you got no idea why not take it to a shop?they will PINPOINT what you need cos they gonna get it up the rack thats waaaay cheaper than just shooting blind and replacing wha YOU THINK is wrong.
my 2 cents but it could be anything from loose rack, inner tie rod, ball joints, etc you get the point so take it to a shop amigo

If the axle isn't snapped or CV boots aren't ripped then there is no need to replace axles. I would jack the front of your car in the air and check out your wheel bearings and ball joints.

wheels and tires are brand new maybe 500 miles, I know the axles are original as were the tie rod ends I replaced with 160,000. The car doesn't have power steering but the steering wheel is so loose it feels like it does. You can seriously hold the wheel straight and the tires will move in whatever direction they want without moving the steering wheel while driving.

i had a similar issue in my 93 si. i replaced, outer tie rod end and upper ball joints and it solved the problem. if you jack the front of the car up and shake the wheel up and down and side to side, you will be able to tell where any movement and looseness is in the front end.

^ hes a dick , but ... hes right. you need to first diagnose it. If you are unsure then pay the $30 or so a shop will charge you to look it over. It is way cheaper then replacing whatever parts you think might be bad. Then you can take it home and do the labor

Do you honestly think you can reproduce tyre forces with the strength of your arms and body weight? If you do, you fail.

he doesnt need to produce the forces that occur while driving. If its as bad as he says it is, then it will be obvious once he jacks it up and shakes down the front end. That IS the way to properly check a front end for bad suspension components.

personally my money is on a bad control arm bushing. But without being able to inspect the vehicle its just an educated guess

and im leaning towars a MISSING bushing cos a bad ball joint can not have enough play of making the car turn so bad
but soooooooooooooooo many components that can be failing alone or combined.
OP
1 just take it to a shop my friend.

2 replace what they say

3 do an ALIGNMENT

I've had worn bushings which felt rock solid when jacked up. I had to rely on a visual inspection (a sagging bushing). Some problems simply can't be reproduced in this manner. Using this method does not guarantee success and therefore should not be preached in conjunction with immature insults.

thank you for the retarded comment, it was very helpful. The first thing I did was jack the car up as I am not an idiot. That is why I replaced the inner and outer tie rod ends because they had way more than 1/8 in of play. Since replacing them I have nothing more than a slight noise on the driver's side axle. I plan on replacing the bushings anyway since I have a turbo kit im going to be putting on so I will replace those and get back to you. THanks for the help.

Im not trying to be an *******, just help you. In your first post you said you replaced the tie rods and it fixed nothing, now your saying you just have a noise. Which is it?

you had a 1/8" of play? thats huge.

surely other balljoints needed to be replaced too.

and did you ever get an alignment after replacing the tie rods?

Well the problem is finally fixed, the passenger lower control arm was bent, the bushings were shot on both lower control arms, and the driverside axle was junk, I replaced both lower control arms and the axle and bam steering is nice and tight and after an alignment it drives great. SRMOFO my retarded comment wasn't meant for you, anyway you were right on the bushings. Thanks for all the help guys
