Default timing / balance belt question f22b1

just curious if the marks on the balance pulleys line up with anything? on the upper right pully there is a dot and on the upper left a line. when the crank is at TDC and i set the timing belt up correctly, is there anything special i have to do with the balance shafts? i've honestly never done a balance shaft motor before.

Do not be tempted to put extra tension on the belt. Making it too tight will result in a whirring noise. Let the tensioner do it's job and leave it be.

conker is right on the dot!!!!

Both my F22B1 & H22A did the same whirring noise after each timing belt job was done. So after some research and what not, I aimed right at the balancer belt being the culprit. And guess what, the noise went away after I let the tensioners do the tension itself.

step 28 is the start of the balance shaft belt install after the timing belt has been installed. Specifically steps 30 and 31 show how to align the balance shafts.

additionally, you might find this thread useful.

ah ha, i did miss it. thanks for the link. i had a feeling the balance shafts needed to be in harmony with the rest of the engine. i also learned the hard way on my first b18c build not to put more tension on the timing belt than the factory tension spring.
