Default 99 Civic Sunroof Won't Close

One night my sunroof wouldn't close. I got the crank out and shut it manually through that little hole in the headliner. Tried it again and the sunroof opens fine but it will not shut without closing it manually, doesn't make noise or anything when I press the button. However the sunroof will tilt up and back down just fine. I tried another friends switch and it does the same thing so I don't think it's the switch. Would a bad relay cause this? Or does the motor stop working in one direction sometimes? Thanks for any advice.

I know the 92-95 roofs have 2 relays.
Sounds like you have a bad one.

Anyone know if the open and close relays are the same? I might try opening it and then switching the relays to see if it will close.

Well I'm still trying to figure this out, wasn't much of an issue this winter but now that summer's here I'd like to get it working again. I'm assuming the close relay is bad. I've done a little research and from what I can find the relays should be inside the driver's side kick panel. I took the panel out though and I don't see them. Are they in a different spot on 99 Civics?

The closing relay seems likely to be your problem.

For 1998-2000 Civics it's under the driver's side dash against the side of the car.
