Default puting a head on a block

ok i finally got to the point of sticking my b18b1 head on b18a1 block, now this is my first time doing anything like this and swaping it in, how can i match up the valves with the pistons? i think in other words time it correctly in order,

right now all of the valves on the head is closed

Do you have camshafts installed in the head? There should be at least a set of valves partially open...

ok, you said the valves were all closed, so I was just wondering. You can't set the timing without the cams installed... Anyway, there's an UP marked on the cam gears and two marks. You point the UPs up and the marks line up with the surface of the top of the head and when cylinder 1 is at TDC, you'll have it lined up right.

is it like doing a valve adjustment? except without adjustjing the valves? just TDC them? cause i have experience with this

you need to the set crank pulley at TDC(the mark separated from the three marks), then you have set the cams at TDC also, which on the gears the word "UP" should be pointing up, they have indentations at the 3 o'clock mark and at the 9 o'clock mark which will line up, and that will be timed correctly..

LOL, sounds like your about to bend some valves... But anyways, rotate cam to the up arrow, put cylinder 1 on tdc ( Make sure u actually put #1 on tdc not just the first one. ) Put your head on, Timing belt etc.. Rotate engine with a ratchet 8-10 turns slowly make sure they dont hit the valves... Start it up and adjust ignition timing with dizzy
