Im missing a bolt on ivac peice and was wondering if this would be the problem with the flucuating idle up and down. Also since the bolt is missing im noticing some coolant underneath my civic would coolant pass through that peice of the seal was bad inside?

your talking about the bypass valve deal thats located at the bottom of your throttle body? has a lil wax plunger deal inside and a spring? not sure if its same as my 94, but maybe can help

 

the thing with the plunger inside is the fitv. Take both the iacv and the fitv apart and clean/inspect them. What bolt are you missing?

 

if the iacv not dirty then you have to replace your tps.

 

Ok, this is a fairly common problem and has been discussed alot. Usually it's nothing more than a vacuum leak. It could be that something didn't line up right or the i/m you put on was warped/bent or even scratched or cracked. Gaskets can look fine somethimes and have a hairline crack and cause this. So to pin point the problem you have two chioces: You can try to clean out the IAC valve or THOROUGHLY spray the whole intake manifold, the throttle body, the iac valve, and all vacuum lines with brake clean or some sort of carb cleaner. If your normally surging idle raises and stays high for a longer period of time than your car normally does you have found your leak. Just whatever you do, DON'T spray the alternator.
