Icon2 Del Sol Manual Steering

I found a del sol at pick n pull today. Most of it was stripped but I noticed that it had a manual rack. When I got home I looked up del sol on wikipedia and they state that the del sol didnt have power steering until 95. This is interesting to me because I have a 93 and it has power steering. So here is the question, can I get that rack and bolt it straight into my car? Is my del sol suppose to have a manual rack? Does the motor have to be removed to change out the racks? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I never knew that the del sol came with a manual rack. was it just the base model sol that had the manual and the si had power?

Yes you can swap it. One thing to note (I saw this from experience and not some internet ****), that a looped PS rack is better than a manual rack in my personal experience. Its easier to manuever the looped rack than the manual rack. And if I am not mistaken my looped rack has quicker steering than my manual rack. And looping it is easier than swaping out the entire rack. Just some things to consider.

I heard the exact opposite. But looping the power rack is what I had been planning on doing until I saw the manual rack today. I have seen a few threads on how to do the loop type conversion but have not seen any pics. Does any one have any pics? A few months ago I removed my belt and drove around that way and preferred the steering that way compared to the power rack but after about a week it started making that irritating lack of fluid noise. Does the looped line way eliminate that?

93 Del sol S here with manual steering, why not keep power steering?

I use an underdrive main pulley. This means that my power steering moves slower, in turn it stay on until at higher speeds. Power steering at close to highway speeds is not a good thing. Also in a car as small as a civic or del sol power steering is not really needed. Ive always preferred manual to power anyway, just my preference.

Well that depends on how you do it. A lot of people do a closed loop or one with a breather. The one I have on my car has a remote reservoir (sp?) so it adds or holds fluid when need be. I just used a clutch reservoir (sp?). I strongly recommend you doing it with the reservoir.
