Default Heat in Driver's Footwell

2003 Civic Coupe here. I searched and did not turn up anything. When my Civic's climate control switches are set so hot air is supposed to blow into the driver's footwell, and even with the fan on high, it seems like hardly any hot air blows down there. When I switch so the air is supposed to blow out of the upper vents, there is a fine flow of hot air. Could others with a 2001-2005 coupe comment on how their footwell air flow is with the fan on?

i don't think mine blows a lot of air but i've never complained about it.

if flow is low, try replacing the cabin air filters

Ineffable and Pothole987, thanks for the input. I checked my cabin filters two months ago. They seemed pretty clean but I blew them out with compressed air anyway. All of the climate control settings that involve the footwell do not show any difference; practically no flow, even with the fan on high. I will try to do more testing in the coming days. Thank you again.

it's the way the venting setup is you will get almost no airflow on your feet it's really bad in the winter cause your toes feel like there freezing I take off the bottom cover under the steering wheel and usually shove my foot up under the dash to get it warm. it is one thing that honda really failed on

Default 2002 Civic ES1 Ex

My heat works great on my feet. It blows just as hard as it does coming from the normal vents.

Thank you for the further input bomerman and woodwardba. I finally set the fan on high and the climate control unit on 'feet only' and went under the dash. With the fan on the highest setting, the air blows hard from the one vent kind of far to the front and on the inboard side of the driver's footwell. But the venting does not blow directly on either foot. I get some improvement closing the upper outboard vent in the dash. Like bomerman says, I am resigned that it is a bad design.

yeah mines the same the heat doesnt blast all the way down to the foot well usually just let the car warm up normal and whenever it gets a lil hot i'll leave the vents to the foot area on

Good point. My 2003 Civic with the 1.7L engine does not warm up nearly as quickly as my 90s Civics did. (For the record, the coolant is topped off and the thermostat appears to be working fine. The heat out the upper vents is good; you just have to wait longer compared to the older Civics.)
