My engine blew up and I need a new one.
So I have some questions (and yes I've searched).
I have e 98 Civic EX w/ a d16y8.
What would be the best option to do?
I called Japan Direct in Raleigh and they said they could get me a y8 for $1300.00, personally that sounds like a steep price.
I was looking at the d15 engines on HMO, are they the same as a d16y8? And if I get one can it be used w/ a d16y8 auto transmission?
Info. is appreciated.

hust go to a u pull it, if you know how to pull the engine. i would not pay more then $250 for a d series... just shop around alot of times people doing a b swap will sell dirt cheap.. hell i gave mine away
or check out osaka jdm motors a d15b vetc is 650 and it's jdm fresh!
I bought a jdm b16 a few years ago and have drivin it quite hard and I tested it today and its still got 185 comp across the board.
synthetic oil FTW!

$1300 can buy you a LS complete swap
D16= $600 TOPS thats tops from a reputable jdm importer
You can find them on crapslist all day for $200-350

id say $1300 would be reasonable.... if you were getting a BRAND NEW one from Honda it self.
i think it's 400-500 for the block, and 600-700 for the head from Honda.

yeah hondas hella expensive dont go with honda get a used one from a junkyard or rebuild yours it might be cheaper
Y8s are expensive because there isn't a JDM equivalent and they have a tendency to spin rod bearings. Demand is often greater than supply. If the civic was a 5 speed it wouldn't be a big deal to drop in a D15B Vtec, with the automatic though it will be a compromise, you'll need to keep the original ECU to run the tranny and the engine will never run quite right.
Sorry for the lack up update.
I haven't done anything yet, still trying to find something to put in, I don't wanna get ripped off.
I believe that the head has been damaged to, I have yet to take it off and look at it though. The reason I believe this is because when the engine blew it shot the spark plug wire outta the hole completely on the other side of the engine bay. So I have a feeling that the piston shot up and damaged the head pretty badly.
So will a d15 block work as long as it is OBDII?

sucks to be you man but don't worry, same thing has happened to me last monday when i blew my motor too. since you are in NC like me too, then go to www.beavershondasalvage.com. It's located in Mooresville and I bought a tranny from there before and it works perfectly fine. I'll be getting my D16Z6 motor from them soon. Pretty darn good price for the motor. $500 plus tax I think.
