Default Noise when moving backward

The car is an 05 rsx type s

There is a loud humming/rubbing noise when moving backward. It makes the same noise if coasting in reverse, if coasting backward in neutral with and without the clutch in. It does not make the noise in any forward gear or moving forward at all, just while moving backward. It goes into rev fine and responds fine and feels good other than the noise. The noise is loud enough to hear inside the house while backing out, so its pretty loud.

A friend described these symptoms from her car i am just trying to get an idea of what may be causing it.

Does the car have an aftermarket header and/or exhaust?? If so, it could be the header rubbing the sway bar because of how much flex the stock mounts allow.

it was my brakes wen this happened to me. My pads in the back wore out uneven and so it only hummed when backin out the driveway. after changing the pads everything was all fixed.

ram air intake or cai? i have a cai made by aem and most of the time that i back up my shift linkage will hit the intake....i know of other people that have this problem as well....you can check it out for yourself too, if the intake does hit the linkage there is probably a spot on the intake where the paint is gone

on a side note there is not much that can be done about this, short of zip ties or getting a new intake....i move mine back in place numerous times but always moves down and ends up hitting the linkage

Same here, I've had this happen to me as well. Check the rear brake pads for wear, replace if necessary.

Yes, it's loud. Like a train.
