Exedy stg I - how much torque does it handle?
Hi,
I have a question re Exedy stg I clutch. In various sources I've seen different numbers for max. torque that this clutch can handle. It was varying from 200 up to 260 ft/lbs. What's the correct one?

I would never run that clutch ever again. This is my personal experience with them I've had the spring pop out of the clutch after only 10k miles. This seems to be a common problem with them. I'm running clutchnet clutch and I love it. So check them out
Ok, but it didn't answer my question...
If their Stage2 is a 3 puck, I can tell you THAT^^ estimate of theirs is low, so I'd assume the Stage1 is also.
I can tell you the stage 2 is a great clutch. It survived 2yrs and ~2000mi of RoadRacing and quite a bit of drag racing for me.
I like em!
I can't say the same for my Clutchmasters Stage3 and RPS 6 puck.

I was a bit confused because a bought stg I for my project and the decision was based on the info from GripForce:

After that I found that some sources say that it's capable of 199ft/lbs and I wasn't sure if it's enough for me. I forgot that you measure torque on wheels, not on the engine like we do in Europe

Thanks for help!

i'v had both the stage 1 and stage 2 clutches
both are good. had the stg1 on my old build which made 185wtq and held up no problem. Had it for about 40k until i built the motor and switched to a stg2 3puck. Awesome clutch.

Yes, it's for 3-puck clutch.

The Stage 1 should be good for any N/A setup within reason. I just don't know how it would hold up to violent launches on slicks after awhile.
The Stage2 engagement is a little rough.....Takes some serious getting used to.
Are there may some other options out there for you that are Full Disc and hold some more power?
Its been a good 5yrs since I shopped for a clutch.
I heard good opinions about ACT HA3-SPSS or HA3-HDSS, but they're pretty expensive compared to Exedy...
Iirc when I was shopping clutches the ACT clutches were generally rated to hold a little more torque than the Exedy ones, but engagement was supposedly correspondingly a little stiffer. I went with the Exedy stage 1 as well (yet to be installed). You might be able to look at different pressure plates as well.
