Hi I'm new. Help with my car
Hello, I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Sam, I live in Tulsa, OK and I drive a 93 integra.
Now, on to my question.
I am wanting to make my car "faster". I would like it to go 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.
currently it has a stock 1.8 DOHC motor w/ 148,000 miles in it...
My budget is about 4k so.. Thinking creatively, what is my best bet here? be specific please. I am semi-new to this so details help me a ton. any websites you guys prefer for parts, or any shops for maintanence would be helpful as well.
Thanks! I appreciate your time. I'll load pictures up here soon of the car. I'm wanting to paint it and either lower it or upgrade to 18'' wheels.

Turbo kit, decent tune and some 13" wheels w/ slicks. Chances are good you'll never run 0-60 in 5.5sec with 18" wheels because when you have the power to go that fast you'll spin those 18" tires for 5 seconds before you even move.
150K can be a poor indicator of how good your engine actually is. An engine with under 100k can run worse than an engine with 200k on it depending on how its been cared for.
With a turbo kit, I would run just enough boost to make it fun, then drive it until it starts to have some problems, at that point only would I rebuild it.
And as for wheels, 13's are a bit of a stretch. You can get some really nice 15's that are under 12 lbs for cheaaaap.

jdm engines corp has been selling the 96-97 ITR swaps for $3500, you can scan ebay for a few other sellers.
personally, jdm engines corp and hmotorsonline are the only two places i've bought an engine from. good luck with both.
turbo kits on high mile motors are time bombs and kill resale. if you actually want to keep the car alive awhile getting a low mile motor is the way to go. at least with the ITR you get 200hp to start with.
turbo builds can be fun, you just need more than 4k and have to think the whole thing out from engine, to drivetrain to axles, clutch, tires, fuel pump etc. it's a complete package.
Boost. You can get a b series for dirt cheap. Go buy a back up long block, and some goodies, clutch, fuel pump, injectors, ECU, turbo kit, and you should still be under 4K
this would be my vote as it's easy, really picks the car up and gets you a low mileage example. your best bet for resale and ease of install is the JDM ITR. you can get the engine, LSD trans and ecu for $3300-3500 shipped.

ok so i've pretty much ruled out turbo. swap it is. im currently looking at H22A, B18C GSR, and B18c type R. could i just do a vtec conversion on my current engine and go from there?
How much work do you want to do?
Also, there is a wider availability of parts for the Bseries than the h22.
I would go with the b18c5.
I'm starting with a b16 and making a poor mans type-r, and will be way under 4k, and just an fyi you cant put a JRSC in a DA, you'd have to go with a procharger or something similar.
first of all try to search I understand your new
do a mini build:
new rings
new berrings
hone out the bottom end
ballance the crank
do a head job:
maybe new valves
new springs maybe even dual springs
then turbo it
TUNE IT to about 8lbs of boost and your good to go

i agree with rota, keep the motor, just rebuild/upgrade it and then slap a turbo on, better off building off what you have if the motor is running strong, and you are better off with the upgraded internals if you want to go higher with the boost
if the OP actually understood how to do any of this correctly, do you really think he would have made such a junior post? i know where you're coming from and also know how to build engines. think about how many builds get screwed up and how many problems come out of people who do this without the knowledge. at the bare minimum he would need an educated friend AND this is assuming the goal is drag racing. turbo motors are difficult and expensive to keep cool on the road course. autocross is another sport the turbo really doesn;t help a whole lot with. kills your class placement and boost hits right about the time you brake.
