d16y8 rebuild! advice wanted
i took out my y8 out of my coupe a few weeks ago.
there's so much i want to do, but there are questions i'm anxious to b answered..
first... if i have the head shaved over 40, can i use p29 stock pistons?
do i use the just the piston or the whole thing (con rods, etc.)
second... can i buy an aftermarket b-series throttle body to use with my y8 manifold?
can i use b-series or k-series fuel injectors? if so can i use with a stock fuel rail.
i'm also thinking about buying a d15 block and using a y8 or z6 head.
idk wut parts i can or can't use.... on the other hand parts within same series are interchangeable.......right??????
my object is to rebuild my engine OEM but be a little better..
lol anything will help and i'm open for ideas.
thnx guys

the OEM b-series or h-series throttle bodies have a bigger opening??
wut other h or b-series parts can i use on this build?
ahh you're right about the mini me conversion. scratch that.
i'm also taking into consideration a k-swap.
when dealing with a k-swap, do u have to cut and rewire the harness?

with dealing with k series swap you need LOTS OF MONEY AND TIME as in 3+ months to have everything correclty done, and i believe some wires need to be extended and such

ahhhh. ok.. i'm kinda new to the whole compression/displacement.. now i'm starting to get into it. do u konw any place where i can get engine rebuild kits for a good price? or is it better off buying the things seperately?? (main bearings, rod bearings, seals, etc.)??
Why would you want to use b series iniectors? Whats wrong with the y8 injectors? You know they're both 240cc's right?
Yes you can use b series tb.
If your asking if wires need to be extended for a k series swap; how in the HELL are you "considering" a k series swap? ARE YOU SERIOUS?????
Yeah im considering doing open heart surgery on someone. Do you know if I will need a bandaid?

If you’re really planning on building this y8 I would start on the bottom end, these motors are notorious for spun rod bearings. That was just one of the lessons I had to learn the hard way.
I dont think they sell "rebuild kits" that will beef up your engine. Just buy separate quality parts ex: Golden Eagle, Wiseco, and ARP bolts. If you never did an engine build you would probably be better of buying the parts and taking it to a real mechanic or machine shop.

My bad dude, its just that sometimes i get frustrated with seeing an interesting topic title that i have experience in, and might be able to help with; just to find questions that can be answered by google in a few seconds.
But yeah, some good advice is to first research your question. Once you have a basic outline of what you want and still need further opinions/answers make a new thread.
Thats what I do. Search search search. Then start a thread. Or i'll ask a question AND research it.
