Stupid thieves broke my rear window, and rather than paying the glass shop a grand (!) to replace it, I found one on Craigslist for $150 and had the shop install it for $125. However the defroster does not work at all. I'm going to take it back to the shop, but I noticed that the maybe 1.5" x 1" rectangle of brown defroster coating over the passenger side terminal is scratched in 2 places, each maybe the size of a pencil eraser. Would this cause the defroster to not work? Trying to figure out if the window itself is defective, in which case I'm kinda screwed.
The scrapes you describe can cause the defrosters not to work. Permatex sells a defroster repair kit for about $10 at any auto parts store. You can try this before replacing the glass. Is your car a coupe?
hey let me know how that works out. i got my rear window tinted and dumbasses broke off one of the tabs off the glass. the black portion is still there but the metal mounted on the glass is gone. will i have to replace the entire glass?
