Grasp it with both hands, pull back and thrust forward. (No homo!) There should be a small gap between the outer diameter of the inner joint to the transmission, but the inner diameter of the joint should mate flush against the seal. If you try to start the car and it doesn't move, you'll get what I mean...

Otherwise, pop the lower ball joint. Watch this video, it's easy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISY8b...eature=related

i tried to knock it in with a heavy wrench but didnt seem like it was gonna go in, do i need to op the ball joint to try the option you suggested or is popping the balljoint a second option?

thanks again

Try pushing it in as is, but if you can't, pull the lower ball joint and have someone hold it back a bit. You may end up having to unstake your axle nuts and pull them completely to fix this. Make sure the C shaped clip on the end is opening downwards, put a dab of grease on it to hold it centered and use some force. Don't be a wuss, it can take some force to get that shaft in.

Always make sure they're fully seated before putting the nuts on. My first time doing axles I had that problem, and always check now.

i cant break my axle nuts because i broke a craftsman breaker bar and dont have air tools

i can go break my ball joint and still mess with the axle though and i never noticed the c-clip on the axle, will try that out
