Default choosing an oil pump for LS-Vtec engine...

I know this for a fact that the lsvtec engine needs to have a vtec oil pump, or an obd2 b18/b20 oil pump. Also, i know that the dealership is usually the best place to get said parts, but has anyone tried out Napa oil pumps?

I think im going to get one, and just to verify that the differences between obd0 and obd2 pumps are different within the napa system in the same the way they are from Honda, is that the part numbers are different.
So, would this get a or a ?

Most people will recommend to go with the honda OEM unit, specially with a ls-crvtec combo.

go personally and check to see if they are the same parts numbers are not.

That being said I would go with it 50/50 I know 2 people who went with EBay oil pumps , one had no problems what so ever the other spun a bearing.

Due to oil pump ? hard to say.

Whats the price difference in price from the NAPA product vs the Honda oem unit ?

the oem one is $152.00 and the Napa one is $159.00, but due to the employee discount im getting it for less than that...

And when you say ''the same part numbers'', do you mean cross-reference from Napa's part numbers over to the Honda part numbers, or

the two different part numbers as in, Honda obd0 and Honda obd2,
and the two different part numbers as in Napa obd0 and Napa obd2...?

Here it is for oem honda:

1990 ls oilpump : 15100-PR4-A03
1999 gs-r oilpump : 15100-P72-A01

and Here it is for Napa Auto:

1990 ls oilpump : SEP 22441997
1999 gs-r oilpump : SEP 22443587

All B-series OBD2 oil pumps are the same, vtec and non-vtec it doesn't matter. The OBD2 pump will bolt up to an OBD0 and OBD1 B-series block. However, it has a different part number because it has provisions for a crankshaft position sensor to bolt to, where the OBD0 and OBD1 oil pumps don't.

As far as going with aftermarket pumps, I've had good success with Melling Oil pumps as well. Gone over 110k miles on mine, and another build I built for a buddy is over 70k miles on his build with a Melling pump as well. You can't go wrong with an OEM oil and water pumps either, but if you do go with aftermarket make sure you measure the rotor to gear and rotor to wall clearances, as well as the crank nose to oil pump seal clearances to be safe, but then again, I do that with OEM pumps as well .

Thats good, now just cross reference the NAPA product for:

any 0bd2 CRV , or Integra

then for obd2 GSR and Integra type R or Civic Si ( 99-00)

If they have the same part numbers, then the aftermarket pumps share the same flow properties as the oem ( meaning there exactly the same for all obd2s ).

IF your discount is significant , then try it out and let us know how it works.

(have a few freinds here working for auto parts places, one place he gets a low 10 % retail price the other guy gets cost plus freight plus 5 % )

btw it's not a crank position sensor on the OBD2 pumps. That is a crank fluctuation sensor...

Quit trying to hype a Type R oil pump, all OBD2 B-series pumps are the same thing! Just look at the part number, even if you look it up for an ITR the part number is still
15100-P72-A01, same for LS, same for GSR, same for B16 SI.
