Default OE locking Steering Wheel and theft

Having read the threads about preventing vehicle theft, I didn't see any mention about the factory OE locking steering wheel as a deterent of theft. How come? Seems like a great feature to have on a vehicle.

You mean how you can't turn the wheel w/o the key? Takes all of 5 seconds to get past that.

It is one more step to steal a car. There is no such thing as theft proof. You can only make it harder and take longer. Best thing you can do is mount a fuel cutoff somewhere hidden. That will only keep it from being stolen if you use it every time you get out, and it won't keep it from getting broken into.

That's the most practical idea I read on vehicle theft [for older depreciated high mileage vehicles]. Satellite tracking; The Club; Battery cut off; etc., etc., all have their place, but it doesn't seem worth it for a high mileage vehicle. I opted for theft insurance for the year. Hate to pay that every year, just because of these ****** and prickettes out there stealing S___! How involved is this cut off switch thing? Is the fuel cut off more practical than an electrical cut off? ....

if they want the car, they will tow it since they can take it where they want and then deal with the security

Very true, but I don't see that happening with an older vehicle. Unless it's something rare or completely rebuilt/restored/decked out.

The fuel cutoff switch is basically a switch on the power wire to your fuel pump. Shouldn't take more than a few hours at the most to install. Do a search for "fuel cutoff switch" and you should be able to find a couple write-ups on it. If you don't want to throw the change for an alarm, you can also install an led on your dash to simulate one. Anyone stealing a car with a blinking led can bypass an alarm anyways, so keep the "smash and grabbers" away with a $5.00 light and blinker.

if they do want your car they will take it, one way or another, you will mabe eventually get it back, but when you get it back you can only junk it, funniest thing i seen while i was in new york in the bronx it was a brand new altima, all stock, it was 96 model i was there in 1996 so the car was brand new, i used to wake up every morning and look at that car cause it was so nice, then a couple of weeks later i go to look for the car and it was parked in the same place but the only, and the only thing that was left of the car was the frame, they even took the fenders, EVERYTHING, they did leave complementary blocks, i was blown away, a few hours ago the car was sitting nice, now is basically gone
