Default Need a new cat on my integra

Sup guys,

I need some advice. I have a Check Engine Light on my 2000 LS and its my catalytic converter. Its been on for some time now, do you think i will need sensors to? Should i buy a new cat for $220.00 (eastern direct-fit) and put it on, or try to find a used one. The car has ALOT of miles (180xxx) and will probably only last another year or two. What do you guys think i should do? Anyone know anyone selling a used cat (that will pass emissions) for a 2000 Integra LS?

Thanks

Just used an OBII reader and it only threw one code (P0420, Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)). Thats what it said, so i guess my sensors are good still?

!!!! i just bought a high flow cat for $180.
$220 is a bit steep. you should be able to find a direct fit cat for about the same as i paid. i know i saw one earlier today somewhere online that was half off and was only $89....i looked at too many sites today or i'd point ya in the right direction...lol sorry. do some surfing and you should find a much better deal

If your sensors aren't throwing their own CEL they should be good and wouldn't necessarily need to be replaced, although I think the uncatalyzed emissions can damage the secondary sensor. I wouldn't rely on a used cat, because there is a service life for such things, and it depends heavily on the condition of the car it came off of. For the same price as a direct fit cat, you can buy a universal cat and have it welded in. If you are not going to be doing the install yourself that is as good a way to go as any, particularly if you have an aftermarket exhaust system.

The car is absolutely bone stock. However, i will search around for a better. As for eBay cats? Do they have OEM location o2 bungs? Also how long have you been running on it?

Obviously cheap products can be good, but the catalytic converter has a tough job and I'd bet that the baffles on a cheap cat won't hold up well.

Ebay "cats" for $20.00-$30.00 are also really test pipes, they have nothing inside to convert anything and when I bought one before it was 16.5" inches when integra cat is 17.5", I had to return it.

I used my brother in-laws OBDII reader and it said it was the cat. The car also smells like rotten eggs

I will most likely try to find a cat. on ebay thats not ebay brand. I dont know of any other brands besides magnaflow and eastern that makes direct fits..but to bad magnaflow has not released one for the 2000 integra, or i would be getting it for dirt cheap lol.. They said they are waiting for more demand

Magnaflow does make universal cats that sell on eBay for about $60 all you have to do is pick a pipe size, order it, and take it to the muffler shop and get it welded in

The car itself can last forever, motors are cheap and cats are more or less universal. Invest in a new one, used Catalytic converters are like condoms, they only work good the first time.

Even though they have the item listed, does not mean it has been released.

they have the early style o2 locations. that could be why you had a problem. there isn't a 2000-2001 listing but there is a 94-99. i used the GSR version which has two o2 bungs on the cat. the other style only has the rear o2 and the front is in the downpipe off the manifold.

Is there a difference between the 1999 and the 2000 integra? Because Magnaflow part# 22629 seems to look like it will work for my 2000 integra. picture - http://car-sound.com/02product/parts/22629.jpg

Or should i just buy this ebay one? item number - 200419852851

I still have this issue, havent been driving but need to take care of this before school starts again.

Edit - Idrive, did you have any problems with the Magnaflow (#22639) cat you used? So its ok to use the GSR cat for the LS?
