Rattling/buzzing short shifter.Not heatshield.
Like the thread says, I am currently experiencing rattling/buzzing noise from my short shifter. Never had the problem when it was first install a year or so ago. It's really noticeable during certain mph especially around 70. I have to apply an upward pressure on the shifter for the noise to go away. No, it's not the heat shield because I check and double check and there is perfect clearance. I check the long bolt that goes through the bottom of the shifter and it seems tight. Motor mounts are good. What could be the problem?
If you have an aftermarket exhaust your shift linkage could be touching the pipe somewhere which would definitely cause a buzzing sound.
it may not be touching while your checking the car but while your doing 70 im guessing your in 5th gear and the different location of the shift linkage could be comning into contact with your exhaust. if its a small rattle i would say it was your engine mounts being a bit stiff but im not too sure otherwise. id check for contact through all gears.

+1 for shifter bushings.
Shifter bushings, mine did the same thing when i was going a certain speed. Changed, problemo solved.. you can get ES bushings for like 20$.

When i replace my short shifter, i also replace my bushings to es, and i had it all replace 2 months ago, when i did my tranny swap. I made sure everything was well lubed and bolted down tightly. I'm running stock exhaust with no heat shield. The problem didn't start right after my swap but 1 month later....so i don't know whats going on down there.
use the rubber bushings that come at the bottom of the stock shifter. its the resonance from whatever other vibrations are coming from the car translating into the shifter like a tuning fork.
lemme guess, your short shifter has sealed/ball bearing cartridges at the bottom of it, right?

I do not know exactly to tell you the truth whether it has sealed/ball bearing cartridges at the bottom of it or not. All I know is that it looks the same as the stock shifter except the ball on the bottom is bigger than stock. Yes, I did use the same rubber bushings from stock ones to put on my short shifter when my bro install it for me. Last time I check when I jack the car up, the rubber bushing seemed kind of rip on the bottom so I don't really know if that's causing the vibration. I'm almost certain that it's the rubber bushing and hoping it's nothing else. I won't know for sure until I take it apart when I have time which is soon.
Update: Problem solved. All I did was just add a washer on the inside of the shift linkage where the metal ball and it comes into contact and the noise went away. Thanks for help guys.
