Icon2 Thermostat issue

I have a JDM B16a with a GSR head and I was wondering what thermostat would I use? Unless all B series thermostats are interchangable.

I ask this because my temp gauge, no matter how long I let the car warm up (even in summer) would never rise above the cold mark.

Side note: would a bad thermostat cause a slight misfire? Plugs 2, 3, and 4 all have carbon on them while 1 is fine and I assumed it was because I'm running rich due to a bad thermostat?

Thanks.

Bump, want to add that I have replaced the cap, rotor, coil (lost the spring on the old one), plug wires and plugs (these are the new ones with carbon on them).

No way can a thermostat can cause a misfire. It sonunds like you definitely need a thermostat. Try putting a timing light on the car and make sure its timed right.

I've tried timing it before but it idles above 1000 and sounds like it wants to die as soon as it goes below 900-1000 rpm (starts kicking and sputtering).

I've tried setting the idle speed with the screw, but like I said it doesn't want to go below 1000 or it sounds like it wants to just die.

Well the heater/temp gauge both worked back in Jan. then I noticed it kept taking longer and longer for it to rise, then the heater stopped blowing hot air.

thermostats fail on the open position all the time, effectively meaning you have no thermostat at all. so the car cant get to proper temp.

I was planning on replacing it anyway just wanted a little clarification.

I just assumed that the silght misfire was coming from my cars fuel being too rich due to the car never warming up.

the car has 2 coolant temp sensors, one for the ecm, one for the gauge. both are in the head and should read hot if the thermostat is not opening.
I'd still replace the t-stat to be safe.

I would always recommend using OEM, i've cheaped and used the parts store "OEM replacement" one and still had an overheating issue until i bought a OEM t-stat and that fixed it.

when you replace the t-stat, double check all engine grounds and make sure they are good.
Good Luck

he isnt having a problem with the t-stat not opening, the problem is that it is stuck open not allowing the car to reach correct operating temp (underheating).
