I'm currently rockin' a d15b7 in my 95 civic coupe. I've tried to do the a6 camshaft and y8 cam gear option, but all the camshafts I found were scared and does seem with the hunt.
In the meantime, I saved up some cash to do a motor swap. Right now I've found a d16z6 swap for pretty cheap. Just thought I'd do the basic mods and some mild head work.
I've come across a full b18b1 swap for a great price as well.
They both seem to range around a grand. Just having trouble deciding which will be best choice. I'm really cheap and don't thing I'll all be making a track car anytime soon. So what would be the best choice for nice street car, maybe some autocross.

D- Series-> have little to no affect with bolt-ons, unless you go turbo to reach 200-250 whp, easy(TURBO-Drag)
B- Series-> Much Greater Response to bolt- on's, (N/A-Auto X)
do some research on what your really going to be using the car for, and what will best suit your needs as a Daily Driver, or Auto-x Part time Driving

Then that seals it for me. Go with the B18 and forget about the D. Trust me, you'll love the response of the B, and with so many aftermarket parts out there, future possibilities are endless!
I've had my B18b in my car now for over 2 years now, with no issues, and it's also my DD.

I swapped my LS into my Civic 1 year and 7 months ago. Its my DD and no problems at all. Its not fast by any means but I have more fun driving it than I did my D16Z6 with bolt ons.

B18b ftw
Then later...... B18b with mods..... B18b w/vtec..... B18b turbo.... B18 si tranny....... Lsvt.......lsv all motor
You get the idea, theres more options and itll be faster than d16 with mods right out the box

You may be right. I know I have more fun driving my LS just becasue it makes more power down low but I am not really sure if my LS with GSR tranny is faster in the 1/4 mile than my D16Z6 was...alot of times I try to remember back to the D16Z6 days and I think it might have been faster in the 1/4.
I dont recomend d series at all. I have had both and I prefer the B over the D any day. They have more potential. There is more readially available parts for them. There is far more room for improvement. B all day
As for the proven ls killer??? Thats bs.. my bro had a stock ls in a eg hatch that ran 14.68 in the 1/4 show me a d that can do that stock.. he now has a all motor built itr in a eg hatch that runs 12.7s show me a built all motor d that can do that.

So I think your saying "Proven LS killer time and time again"?

OP, Your always gonna have people biased against Ds and Biased against Bs.
Like I said I have more fun overall driving my LS than I did my D16Z6. But the LS in stock form isn't anything to brag about powerwise. Of course neither is the D16Z6. I went LS because I got the engine from a friend of mine pretty cheap and I knew the background on the engine and how well he took care of it. Plus I have plans for boost.

trust me. i've had both and i must conclude and share with you that b18's are a lot more fun than my D16 was. more potential than D-series if you want to talk about speed. but D's are not so bad either if you build them right for boost. D's are cheaper, and easier to build and boost. easy reach for 200hp, although this can be done by the B's too. it will cost a bit more, but the price is worth every penny when you hit 300hp and even more depending on how much you want to spend and build it. if your going to boost and want something DD and very cheap to build, get the D16. if your willing to take your car to the next level and DD, & willing to spend a bit more, get the B. as for me, well, again, I prefer the B, mostly because I love having bottom end power, in which D-series will always lack. its really up to what you want to build and what your looking for.
if your not planning to boost anytime soon, I would suggest the B18 again, because stock b18's are little devils on the street
stock D16, well, not so much fun IMO!!
but don't get me wrong, D's have my respect. knowing you slaughtered a someone's ls/vtec in a D-series (boosted) is a great pride you can have. D's are looked down upon more and more everyday, but someone is always out there making a new statement for the D.
gotta love honda for making such great motors!
