Wuddup Fellas,
Trouble-shooting the infamous dying motor has taken me nowhere and cost me a fortune. Dying motor that would not make it up a hill if it was steep enough. I have replaced the ignition system, the IACV, the catalytic converter and adjusted the ignition timing. I have run out of ideas on this thing and now waiting to discover the 2.00 part that fixes it all. Anyone got an idea that I haven't tried that might help me out.

My only guess would be the TPS, but I do not have a CEL light on.

 

did you try a compression test?

Was thinking of doing a compression test, but haven't yet had the time to pull one off. In the event that one of my cylinders is not putting out enough pressure what are the possible case scenarios.

More details:
-car begins to lose power driving up hills
-weak response upon acceleration at all times

(The idle seems steady at operating tempearture so I have ruled out a jump in my timing and there is no bucking in acceleration so I have ruled out the TPS.)

Just really not sure where to go from here anybodys help would be greatly appreciated.

 

compression test, did you check the timing with a timing light or how just at the distributor?

 

can we please get some info on your car? how can we help you with out knowing what year or model your car is. check your dizzy, its probably your Main Relay if you have replaced the ignition switch already and its still dying

 

Dude theres a mile long list of things this could be. Check these things first:
Fuel delivery
Spark
Compression
Proper timing


How about your air filter?
Is your motor heating up more going up hill?
Have you tried downshifting?

I had the timing advanced with a timing gun to 16+2 due to the fact that it was dying out so bad on hills. The advancement did help in a minscule sort of way.

Due to the fact that the car has never stalled out and starts up fine I really can't see it being the main relay, but I did try spraying some carb cleaner down the mani to see if any changes would appear with no results. Also not sure why it would be the ignition switch.

Air filter is clean (also there is no erratic idling). Motor temp stays at good constant of normal operating temperature. Yes, downshifting does help me get over hills, but i'm really looking to get the problem fixed not spend the rest of my life relying on trusty third (no cruelty intended). I am fixing to replace the fuel pump soon, but not feeling as though this is really my problem.

 

? so power wise is it there and it just dies or does it feel like **** when you are WOT? does it randomly die and has power? need better scenario's/symptoms

if it is running like **** and dying then it has to do with either fuel/air/spark, you say its stock so it is probably getting air. check your spark plugs, Dizzy, injectors, fuel filter.....

I would put the timing back to OEM spec. which I believe is 16deg. you either have a fuel or spark problem. Take your Fuel rail out and have it facing up wards. Then while someone is watching the injectors, turn it over to see if the Injectors are shooting proper fuel
