Default 5 speed mods for '91 EX ?

When the day comes to retire my F22 I will probably swap in an H22. When I do I will take my 5 speed out and have my buddy (owns a tranny shop ) go through it. Are there any internal mods that will beef it up a little and make it shift a little ( LOT ) smoother ? Street clutch recommendations ? I may pickup another trans now and go through it so it's ready to go when the time comes. Is there a better 5 speed that will swap in behind the H22 or are they all pretty much the same ?

Yeah, yeah, I KNOW , do a search ! I did and I keep coming up empty handed.

Well sounds like you're planning on dropping the H22 in anyway so why not go ahead and pick up the complete swap and start to build it. I believe the H23 tranny is geared a bit longer but don't quote me on that. JDM trannies are better also. However, unless you plan on really building the motor I don't think the tranny will need any armor.

motor and tranny mods are infinately easier before installation. you know this of course.

check out the road race/autox forum for more specifics about the tranny. I know a lot of guys swap gears and/or final drives. I know one guy who used a USDM 99 Lude tranny and swapped in the Civic Si countershaft and overdrive (5th) gear... or some **** like that. crazy top end speed.

Save for the H22 tranny dude. The F tranny ratios are too long. Besides you don't want to be using an old-*** tranny with a newer motor.

Thanks, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. I've decided it's worth fixing the body on so once the car itself is back up to snuff I'll start scrounging for the drivetrain. My wife's boss and his Dad are into Honda's big time and buy Insurance totals all the time to rebuild or for parts, I'll see if they can fix me up with an H22 donor that's been rearended when the time comes that way I'll have everything right there.

188K and not a squeak or rattle now that I have the new sway bar end links in, wish I could say the same for anything else I've owned at 18K much less 188 .

Sweet dude. I have a 92 EX sedan, had it since it was new. It's 10 years old (obviously) and I'm basically restoring it. Right now it's totally stripped and I've removed all the sound deadening material. With a 2000 H22 in it it's fast as ***** in it's current state of trim... but I'm putting the interior back in
