♠ RDX Discussion ♠
I have noticed while shopping for an RDX, and now after taking delivery of one, there is a serious lack of information available on HT. If at all possible, I'd like to remedy that. I call this place home and I'm not interested in going elsewhere to obtain or share information.
After owning a Fit for two and a half years, my wife and I decided we'd really love to have more space for the two kids' car seats and stroller. From experience, we knew we wanted to upgrade to something with leather and we had had our eyes on new or nearly new CRV's for quite a while. A small SUV or crossover would be perfect for us, providing a little more space and certainly more ammenities than we had with the Fit Sport.
I'm a die-hard Honda/Acura guy, having owned 13 of their products (14 if you include my lawn mower) in the last eight years. With that said, I obviously wanted to stay in the Honda family. We drove a couple new CRV's and liked them quite a bit, but by the time you choose the EX-L for the leather and 4WD, we were up to the $28k range. I looked into '07 and up MDX's because I think they are gorgeous, but most were still out of our comfort zone with respect to the price. Not caring for the '06 and earlier MDX body style, I decided to check into RDX's wondering if they had come down enough in price. Sure enough, we found an '07 RDX at a local Honda dealership so we compared it side by side with the CRV EX-L.
The size seemed nearly identical, but as far as the aesthetics, driving experience, power, and most notably the seat comfort (oddly enough), we knew the RDX was what we were after. We took that Diamond White Pearl '07 base RDX home for an overnight test drive and loved it. During that period of time, I located a Carbon Gray '07 RDX with a Tech Package with half the miles and a similar price a couple of hours away. I called the next day, we negotiated over the phone, the salesman drove it down and we sent the Fit home with him.
Given that most vehicles take the most significant hit in value when they are purchased brand new, I felt much better about buying a slightly used (26,000 miles) RDX and not having to suffer that initial blow as I would with a brand new CRV.
The amount of technology in this thing is ridiculous. Like I said, I'm a Honda fan and have been for nearly a decade, but after owning the RDX I have even more respect for the company. The navigation could certainly be more user friendly, but other than that it's fantastic. The biggest down side by far is the fuel economy. We are getting between 19 and 21 with a city/hwy mix. A long rode trip over the weekend doing 60 on the highway gave us 24mpg. Not too bad for 4000lbs and boost, I guess.
I would rather have had white, but not for twice the miles and no tech package.

The RDX is primarily for moving the kids during the day, the family in the evening/weekends and for me to have some fun with when no one else is in it. I drive my EF sedan to and from work.

Mine is the same color, however i didn't opt for the navigation. I didn't really care for it, especially with the $36k price tag.
I bought mine with 4 miles on it in April 07, pealed the plastic off it and drove off the lot. I love it, except, the gas, and oil changes.
You're going to hate changing the spark plugs, you can only get them from Acura/Honda at $15-$20 a plug, and you have to remove the intercooler to get to them.
Since then, I have 60000+ miles on mine, and regular oil changes, Mobile 1 Synthetic. The factory Michelin tires only got me 45k miles, then I decided to get different tires to see how the car would handle, and boy, I do not recommend straying away from the Michelin Pilots if you don't have to worry about winter driving.

Here are some interesting things owners may not be aware of:
1) To have your engine running and the DRLs off, your parking brake has to be set before you start the vehicle. Once the parking brake is released, the DRL's come on.
2) If the vehicle is at a stop and the wipers are on intermittent, the wipers will wipe immediately when you take your foot off the brake. Another safety feature just like the rear wiper wiping automatically when put in reverse.
3) The driver side seat heats the bottom and the lower back, but the passenger side heats only the bottom.
4) The brightness of the rear camera image can be adjusted by turning the navstick wheel while the camera is on.
5) There is a change holder on the underside of the center console lid.
6) You can renew your XM radio subscription for $77/year by calling XM and asking for that price. Have your radio ID ready. Call 866-409-0296 and tell them the promotional code is ZWINBACK. They'll ask you if you received that offer in the mail; say yes. Then they'll ask you for the phone number and address and, finally, your credit card. This offer has to be charged on the card, not billed. The price with NavTraffic is $124.88.
7) The power windows have an auto-reverse safeguard ("Pinch Protection"), if you use 1 touch-up and put your hand on the window or force the window to go down, your power window will stop the operation and window will go down by itself.
8) The right rear view mirror tilts down to help curb parking if the slide switch is in the right side position of the mirror adjustments.
9) Holding down the "CH" button on the steering wheel will scan the stereo to the next station. Also, on a MP3 CD with multiple folders, holding down the "CH" button will advance to the next folder on the disc.
If you know of anything else, please share. Also feel free to correct me on anything above if it's wrong.

Sorry for the bump, but I just had to post on our new purchase. We have a 1st born on the way in Sept. so the wife and I needed exactly what the OP was looking for...small size SUV. The wifey looked at an RDX last year and loved it. However, at the time, it was a little out of our budget (brand new). We decided to go look at different cars today and came home w/ an '07 diamond pearl white w/tech. And the best part...IT HAD LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER! I couldn't believe my eyes. Anyhow, I haven't logged on to H-T in a while and was surprised to see that the RDX wasn't listed as a section. I guess one would have to assume that it would be discussed in this forum (w/MDX). Just wondering if there are any specific RDX forums out there.

Hey Guys, I feel the same way as the OP & PNTBALLFREAK as to why RDX isn't shown love here.
But anyways, My Wifey just bought a Brand New RDX 2010 Pearl white w/ SH-AWD w/ Tech pkge. Rides pretty smooth, my first choice of the smaller SUV's out there. She put a down payment on VW Tiguan & had a very bad customer service experience. So she opted to listen to me & went test drove the RDX & now she's in Love. The Boost in my Evo convinced her
She went from a Benz 280 C-class leased to RDX financed a friend was Hating b/c of that.
I said there's always gonna be Haters.
Well, I had an Integra GSR w/ Boost & then a Civic coupe to now an 05 Evo VIII, but the love for Honda never left my heart.
So yea anyone w/ Specific RDX forums, please....
