SRS light on my 6th gen, I think it's just freaking, anyone have something similar happen?
Howdy...
At first it would start when I started the car maybe once, twice or 3x a week. It would stay on for as long as the car would go on, when I got home I'd turn it off, turn it on again and the light would be gone.
Slowly and slowly it started coming on more often and in the middle of nowhere, it might come on 25 minutes into my commute home.
My mechanic said everything was fine but I think he lacked the codes to reset it? I'm wondering if I can restart the comp and have it go away or if it's a defect that I can find a TSB for so honda can fix it?
It's a 2000 Accord V6 with 58k miles...
Appreciate any help, you all seem like a very helpful bunch

To clarify the mechanic point - he is suffering from diabetes and unfortunately had to go no vacation after my oil change where he mentioned my SRS light to my gf. I can't really ask him what it was, as he may lose his legs from the disease
and I'm sure that 15 second explanation has slipped his mind for bigger things

It's the red SRS light, I'm familiar with how the yellow light will come on occasionally if load on the passenger seat is oddly porportioned (my gallon of water for work does this sometimes).
mine came on and stayed on for a long time until i had it reset at the dealer but they said that dirt and stuff can set off the sensor under the passenger seat.

Do you know of a site out there that might list the bulletin?
I'd like to go in armed with a bull # so as to not waste either their time or my own, hanging out on ls1.com I've learned (albeit GM service) that service does not always live up to it's name if i'm getting a free fix :/
Thanks for the help all!

the trouble code is going to be 15-3(i'm pretty sure or I will check my tool box tomorrow to make sure) which is the SRS unit is inop or is interfered with some electronics ie. Cell phones and laptops.
The proper procedure is to ask the customer if he or she is placing/using some kind of cell phone or other electronics. And if so, we will clear the code and tell the customer not use or place their electronics on the passenger seat.

a coworker of mine bought an AV6 coupe and is having the same thing.. her cellphone causes it.
Jeez can they rig up some shielding on the SRS unit or what!?

I called the AZ dealership (on broadway in mesa) and they said since i'm out of warranty it'd be 75 dollars to evaluate it.
I'd only have to pay the fix fee if I choose to get it fixed - anyone know how much I might be looking at?
Appreciate the help, it's quite the frustrating problem

Have them check it out- then you can contact Honda and they should goodwill it since it is a known problem. Make sure to remind the dealer that there is a recent bulletin- usually most dealer techs are unaware of anything useful and don't care to look for info. The thing is, there is an updated part number for the SRS unit (if that is what you need) that only shows up on the bulletin (or at least used to). I had an 01 Accord that had 3 new SRS units (old part number- before updated unit was available) that went bad until I finally fixed it with the new unit. So it is possible to get your bad unit replaced with another new bad unit and you won't know it until later when the light comes back on (that is, if you need a new SRS unit). Just a heads up- most dealer techs don't care or don't know- MOST that is.
