can anyone with a real db8-R help me out ?? im looking into buying one and was wondering how many digits is the vin number ? if anyone can help me out with that, thanks

No VINs on Japanese cars,...just serial numbers

 

JDM vehicles have a 10 digit serial number. Can be found in the engine bay firewall, and sometimes the rad support.

 

hmm because it has 17 digits on the firewall but everything is type R on it from suspension to interior etc, could it be an exact replica of a 4dr R ? it has a sticker on the door jam in japanese writing and it says "type R" on it but idk about the 17 digits on the firewall

If it has the 17-digit VIN on the firewall, then it is not a JDM DB8-R.

its right hand drive, everything on it says its a type R, it even has a sticker on the right door that is in japanese writing and says type R on it, the ONLY thing that says it is not real is the vin number..but thats the most important way to tell , is there a possibility they did a vin swap to register it ?

no the car doesnt have a sunroof, im guessing they did a vin swap to register the car to not have to hassle with registering it legit...everything on it is Type R

 

How do you vin swap the firewall VIN? Can you provide pics of the firewall VIN? I've seen a few four door Integras pull off a DB8-R replica real well, could possibly be what you're talking about. What kind of title does the car have? What color is the car? You can easily buy those stickers that are in Japanese for the door jams, sunvisors, ect.. You can buy everything..

 

idk how you can vin swap lol, i can try and get pics tomorrow of the firewall, the color of the car is silver, vogue silver metallic. would taking off the dash and checking to see if theres any welds prove if its converted or not ?

 

I don't actually know what a real DB8-R would look like behind the dash compared to a replica, converted one. I'm sure if you take apart the dash a little and see how it looks you'd be able to tell if it's been tampered with, could possibly answer your overall question.

 

ok well my friends friend is the one selling it and he bought it from someone else..so im gonna ask if i can check behind the dash to get to the bottom of this

Things to check...
DB8-XXXXXXX number on firewall.
Type-R stick in doorjam, I think it's blue font, although that can be added.
The biggest one...crawl underneath the rear bumper and look for a rather large bar welded up behind the trunk area near the bumper. This is similar to the trunk bar that is bolted in the DC2-Rs, but this is welded and outside the trunk.
There are other things, but those cross my mind. If it has the right kind of identification on the firewall along with those things, then the odds are in your favor.

just had a look, it does have a 17 digit vin plate but this was added by the govt department when it was imported into my country, guess this number had to have come from somewhere.

Should also have the blue plate on the rad support that says db8 and some numbers, and also "type: type r", but yeah easy enough for someone to swap that.

 

thanks bro for sharing that, to add to this..the car is a slvg title it got jacked, they took the seats, engine, and that blue plate on the rad support was taken also, thats why its hard to tell if its real or not
