Some quick Q's on engine build --->look d series or mini me experts<---
how do i remove the head on my d16a6 to put mini me head on.
i got the exhauist off valve cover off.
Do i know take the injectors and fuel rail off then intake mani then the head?
If so do i need to cut off the fuel somewhere or just yank and watch out for the fuell falling.
Next what timing belt do i use for a d16 bttom and a d16z6 top end. ???? the stock si one or the one from the civic.??? THX guys.
oh yeah and is a used 95 SOHC VTEC head gsaket in good condition reusable cause im a little short on funds cause i just got my turbo rebuilt. ( as in i have no money)

I'll help you out here a bit. I've been doing a little more research!
Plus I recently put on my Y8 intake manifold - I just got too bored, and wanted to put something in before the engine swap! (still taking forever, need one more shipment of parts then I can finally start)
It would probably be better to take off the intake manifold before you remove the head. (fuel rail first!) But I'll tell you, removing your intake manifold can be somewhat difficult - there is one bolt in the middle on the bottom side that holds the manifold on that is a real PITA to get off, and just as hard to back on. You'll find out. But really, you can figure out taking off the entire manifold just by looking it over for a bit.
The only reason to take off the intake manifold first is because you have some wiring in the way, the injector wiring harness. If you can find a way around that, I'd totally recommend taking off the head with the manifold attached. (minus wiring & fuel stuff, of course)
As for the fuel, relieve the fuel pressure by unscrewing one bolt off of the fuel filter. There are two lines that connect to the filter, the one that leads to the fuel rail there are two bolts in one on the filter, remove the smaller one. Gas will spit out, just throw a rag on top of it. Then your ready to remove all fuel related parts.
But it doesn't really matter, just make sure you're not smoking, and your battery is disconnected - gas evaporates really fast anyways.
Timing belt - use the belt that is made for your head. The A6 belt will be a little bit too long. Use a Z6 belt.
As for the head gasket - I've heard you can reuse old ones as long as they aren't cracked/deteriorated. But I'd strongly recommend waiting until next paycheck, then buy a Y8 headgasket! The Y8 gasket is a little thinner than the Z6 which equals a higher compression, plus it will last longer in the end.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Yeah what he said. Do the fuel pressure first, remove all electronics, then intake, exhaust manifolds; all other hardware first, then unbolt the head. Much easier this way. Did my A6 head like that and my brother's B16A head which was harder. You'll do fine.
thx for your help. i need the thickest head gasket cause of turbo. Wiill the d16a6 timing belt not work at all. a new one was 60 bucks for my head.
also i can use my d16a6 timing gear right?
how does that come off and go on what do i line up?
THX again really apreciate this

Hey 89_Y_49,
How do you like your Y8 motor? Does it pull pretty hard? Is it responsive?
But what about the ECU, which one exactly are you using (not fimiliar with codes), is it the Z6 ECU, or the Y8 ECU? Was it easy to wire-up the new ECU, or did you buy a OBD changover wiring kit?
I'm thinking of using a Zdyne One-wire conversion, just because I'm too lazy to mess around with the wiring. It also has other benefits.......

I think you can still use the Z6 timing gear... Looking at my Z6's timing gear, and my A6 one, they both look pretty much the same. Now my Y8 timing gear is different from the other two... I guess you can use the A6 gear.
There is one bolt that holds the gear onto the camshaft, just unscrew that, and the gear will come out.
But about the timing belt, there really is no way you can use the A6 one. Getting pretty frusterating eh? Yeah, me too, I'm totally fed up with my swap right now.
