Default Boosting, which is better D16Z6 VS. D16Y8

Just wondering if there is any major difference between the Z6 and Y8. Is one better than the other for boosting? Does one have a better head than the other, things like that. Looking to Make 350WHP stock internals other than a Cam, springs and Head Studs.

http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewt...hp?f=26&t=3788

Looking to boost my daily next year summer, so I'm trying to learn about the D series game.

Currently I have a D16Y8

Also whats a good Camshaft out there, and will it require aftermarket springs
- Bisimoto
- Skunk 2
- Zex - A lot of guys seem to like this choice, from what I have seen
- JG Engine Dynamics
- Other ???

The only thing I see that am gonna use 100% is the JG Engine Dynamics Single valve spring and Titanium retainer kit for $252 which I think is a good deal
- max lift 575'' / max rpm 9800

Any good input would be great. Thanks

Y8's have oil starvation issues... Z6 or older D series bottom ends are preferred, plenty of boosted y8's though.

Would you happen to know exactly what is the problem in the bottom end.
- Is it the design of the oil passages in the block?
- Is it the Y8 oil pump, and could a Z6 oil pump fix the problem? (can it even work in a Y8?)
- Or is it a mix of both and its best just to use a Z6 block?

Thanks

Actually your retarded. You CAN NOT use a z6 oil pump on a y8 block for the simple fact you will no longer have an oil dipstick. Y8's use the dipstick on the oil pump its self and z6's use the oil dipstick on the front of the blocks. Like the a6 and every other D series.

The y8 head flows better than the Z6 head. Y8's do have oiling problems. A new oem oil pump, chamfer the oil holes in the crank and open up the bearing oiling holes and port/shim the Y8 oil pump and you'll be golden.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I boosted my y8 for about 2 1/2 years with a custom kit, t3/t4 50trim to about 240whp at 10psi. I only had arp headstuds after a head gasket blew. I never experienced any oiling issues. Kept a keen eye on the oil level and changed it regularly every 3000 miles. I say keep what you have and get the fjt pistons and rods.

FJT looks like a good 500whp set up......... what engine management you running, and are you running a log or tubular manifold ?
