Axel making clunking noise
The passengers side axel makes a clunking noise when I hit a bump, or hit the brakes or put it into gear and start driving. It's almost like the axel is loose.
I jacked up the car and verified that it's not the wheel bearing. When it was jacked up I could turn the tire forward or backward probably 1/2 to 1 inch before I felt any resistance, before it started moving any gears.
Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, I'm just concerned that it could turn into a problem. Thanks.

the inboard joint of the axle will clunk on deceleration/braking and a slight vibration on acceleration. the inboards might be going out on that side.
The axel is new so I don't think it's the inboard joint. The noise is coming from inside the differential I think, from whatever the inboard joint connects to (something in the differential).
Is there something in there that is most likely to go out? Could it be something else?

Well, the reason that the axle is new, is because I thought it was the axle making the noise. Replaced it and it still makes the noise. When I'm driving, it sounds like it's the axle making the noise, but if I lift the car and turn the tire by hand I can tell it's from inside the differential or something.
wait so you are manual turning the tire? and the nosie you hear from the differential, almost like you hear the gears moving? that is standard, that is a normal noise, the nosie you are hearing is from somewhere else.

Is this a metallic clunk (clank) a muffled "thunk", or an almost inaudible "Thud" ?

The best way I can describe it is a clank. But it could almost be a loud click. Maybe metal on metal. I didn't think that maybe it could be a bushing, but I'm thinking that might be it, because it almost sounds like the sound is coming from the wheel well or somewhere just inside of that under the car.
I'll check those out. Let me know any other ideas.

Man...I made a thread on this few months back. Experienced the same ****, from then, I had new axles and new diff (LSD) and it lessen the noise but it's still there. What you're hearing is probably a 'normal' honda drivetrain preload or it could be some free play in the 'axial' direction of the axel (because the axle is slightly shorter). I tried it in my friends oddysey and it was much worse, car was automatic, jacked the car up and I can turn the wheels about an inch in Park. His one doesn't make any clunk noise because it is automatic, on 'Drive' the drivetrain is always loaded. Also, yes it was the passenger side (driver's side for me) that is more predominant.
Otherwise also,
1. Inboard Joint of the axle
2. Wear in your diff/Final drive
3. Clunk on bumps??? Lower or upper ball joint
4. Check tie rod mounts.
Let us know when it's fixed so hopefully we can probably pint point in future.

i'm also getting a noise from my driver side wheel. its not a cluncking sound. when i'm slowing down and coming to a stop, i get this pulsating noise from the driver side. i recently changed most of the suspension parts as well as both axles, rotors, and bearings. so i don't know what the noise could be. any help?
If you're getting a pulsating noise when you're slowing down you might just need to get your rotors turned, or bleed your brakes or something.
I'll plan on checking the sway bar mounts too, thanks.

Thats from bad Camber...Especially if your dropped...Just examine your components. I replaced my sway bar links and felt the difference immediately. Im gonna do entire suspension refine after a while and powder coat all the components. Replace all bushings with suspen max stuff. Probably Function coilovers.FTW
^^I am riding dropped. Its pretty low actually so i guess could be from bad camber. I just changed the end links a few weeks ago with poly ones so don't think its that. I'll go over all the components and just try and figure it out i guess.
