Default Best Engine & Trans Combo

I am trying to plan out what engine & trans combo to swap into my 96. Yes the F22B1 is a great engine, and I like it. But, I think it's time to go with something else. Keep in mind, I have to smog the thing and not get the car impounded. California has some stupid strict rules, and I can't run turbo. I was thinking maybe a K series hybrid?

not to be rude but have u thought about selling it an getting a civic cuz a k20 would be alot more sporty in a eg or ek i think in the long run u would regret the extra weight the accord has because it comes down to every 100 pound is a 0.1 of your 1/4 mile thats y a k into a civc is much more popular

why would you want to put a gsr trans on a h series in an accord over just a stock h series trans. also i was not aware you could do an h2b in an accord chassis with any current kits.

h22 with h22 trans would be the most cost effective and well matched... although with California being so strict on modifications and emissions, I would check into the laws about engine swaps and what emissions standards you would be required to meet.

k series swap would be killer but very expensive.

whats your budget and agian might wanna look into the laws about engine swaps. see what standards you have to meet for emissions, like if you still have to test to the old f22b1's standards or what.

Yeah, OBD2 H22 with H trans will give the most bang for the buck. Use an ECU from a 96 H22 Prelude. Its the only H22 OBD2 ECU that does not utilize an immobilizer. Its pretty much a "bolt in" swap.

Ya that was a good thread. The b series was weak and was only used in terms of gearing options.

I know that the H22 has been done a million times. I was thinking about picking up a wrecked 2006 accord, and swapping in the drivetrain. Maybe combining the K24a8 that it has, with a K20 head. The K24a8 has the 9.6:1 comp ratio, and would be the perfect setup for the K20/24 setup.

If I were going to get a civic, I would make a civette. I like to try different things, and so far everybody goes turbo or h. I guess the H22 would be the best as far as money. But, who knows. I am still saving up, and open to Ideas. I also like the J series, but I would want to put a STS turbo setup on it and cant.

Youre correct about the million number. But an H swap is inexpensive. The scary thing about K swaps is of course the price. But if can get your hands on a wrecked 06, Do it. Youll be ahead of the curve pricewise! An Accord Kswap will be SIICK. Be sure to post pics for us.

That is the best one yet. I totally agree. If I could find a job in another state, I would. In fact, if anyone knows of a job or can hire me. Let me know. I am always looking. Jobs out here are scarce.

Is running E85 illegal? Some of the newer cars (withing the past few years) are designed to accept e85 biofuel. I know Saabs are capable of it.

Running E85 on a vehicle not designed from the manufacturer is illegal in California, and probably a few other states. Check with your local laws. Cars like you are talking about are perfectly legal, as they have passed government standards for emissions.

Yup, with my T2T4 LSD trans, I dust preludes all day except for a BB2 lude that is pretty quick. I want to re-match him but haven't got a chance.

After I redo the suspension, I will trans swap to the five speed. Then I will start gathering up the goodies for the turbo setup.. Why can't honda just come out with some turbocharged cars, and make it easier for us?
