Frustrated Between Cars!
I know a made a similar thread, but this is more detailed on my problem and I gotta figure something out before it drives me nuts.
Basically, I jumped into buying my first car pretty early (before I even got my license, which I'm going for in a few months, after winter) and I'm not sure if I'm starting to regret it or not.
I bought a 95 hatchback with millions of minor problems, and about 999,999 of them were the old owners fault, he was in idiot. For instance, my speakers were rattling, so I took the door panels off and they were just sitting there, not bolted or anything. Anyway, I've fixed most everything I could without taking it into my shop.
My problem is, I'm not sure if I wanna stick with the EG or sell it and buy an EK, which if I buy, will already have been swapped with hopefully DOHC VTEC, that's really all I ask for since I'm assuming it's easier and cheaper to buy one already swapped then buy an engine and do it myself.
My Car:
Year: 1995
Engine: D15B7 (102/98?), 5spd
Interior: Super Clean
Exterior: Lots of bumps and dings, not a problem tho, I do body work and paint myself
I paid $1900 for it, looking to sell it for atleast $2500
It's COMPLETELY stock, except for some minor things, so in order to make it more of what I "like" it'll probably be expensive and time consuming.

Other Option:
Year: 96-00 (hopefully 99-00)
Engine: Anything with vtec, damn
Interior: don't care
Exterior: don't care
Just needs to be in fixable condition and worth my time and money. Looking for someting between $3000 and $4000
So the question in a nutshell is, keep it or sell it? and of course, WHY
Thanks in advanced

keep it. because almost anything from an integra can bolt on to it.
easier to swap than a 96-00 civic. and thats all i can think about.

wouldn't it just be easier to get a ek that's already swapped and has at least SOME aftermarket parts? I mean, I'D LOVE to work with this car, and make it something great, but I just don't wanna get halfway through and realize I shouldn't went with an ek
EG>EK hatches
already OBD1, not that it really matters
built>bought
yours is already super clean
and no matter what car you buy especially one that is already swapped your gonna have a million little problems. its part of owning a car.
most DOHC vtec swaps are going for >2000 anyways. or you could just add a z6 or y8 head to your block and have vtec.
i say keep your eg and build it. you have a great starting point.

dur, that's a great answer. I guess I shoulda asked how and what I'd have to do to put vtec in it, I just want something that's gunna throw me back in the seats. Would just adding a head to the block make all the difference?
well no not really its not gonna give you that much power. but it would be a great improvement over the non-vtec sohc.
the only way to get power outta a d series is turbo, plain and simple. but having the fastest car isnt always the best. you need to look at other things also, suspension, brakes, safety.
i would do all of those things before i put a turbo on my ej1. add a vtec head you will be happy for a lil bit. then down the road after you get everything set go turbo.
do some search on mini-me's. (sohc non-vtec block sohc vtec head) its just like a ls/vtec just sohc.

Keep the EG hatch, it is super clean. Like the first guy said there is alot that you can swap over from the integra's wich makes for cheap upgrades. For instance stock rear disc brakes will bolt right up to your EG. Great upgrade and a super cheap price.
And if you want vtech really bad, like they said throw a z6 head on it. You can even buy a D15B or D16Z6 for $500. Both vtech direct swap, all you have to do is wire in the vtech, and get an ecu

Yeah, I've really got no patients though, I gotta work on it lol. My original plan was to upgrade the engine last but, like everyone else, I wanna avoid rice. Guess I should just do what ya said and deal with the engine last
Remember how you mentioned the problems on your current car? That's exactly what you could face if you pick up a swapped car too. Only worse for the swapped car.
I'd recommend you look for a car that's as stock as possible. Better, cleaner base for a better, cleaner project. Fewer problems in the future. Not as many unwelcome surprises.
I love the '96-'00s though, '98 in particular. The looks, quality of the overall vehicle, interior comfort and the general feel of the car.
OBDII won't restrict me from any swaps I'd ever be interested in. A swap itself certainly isn't any more difficult to do to an OBDII vehicle over an OBDI vehicle. I've never found a part for an Integra and groaned over it's unavailability for the 6G ("EK") chassis because, well, that doesn't happen too often anyway.
Btw, blackbndt, it's VTEC. No "H" on the end.

yeah that's true. I should be grateful for how good of condition it's in. guess I'm just the type that thinks that if there's something better, or something else I can do to my car to make it more powerful, then it's not good enough
lol @ vtech

if i where you, i'd keep the eg. you know the car, you never really know what you're buying until later on down the road. it would be cheaper to buy a car that's swaped already than to do it yourself, but i think swapping your own motor is a really good learning experience plus no matter what you buy, you never really stop spending money on it. get what you want and what's going to make you happy. there's always something better, or something you can do to make your car more powerful. most honda enthusiasts think there cars aren't "good enough". especially there first cars
My point was that buying a swapped car is a bad idea since you could inherit so many problems. I wouldn't want to keep the current car. I'd want a stock 6th gen to end up swapping.
keep the eg
the hatch ek is a reject civic IMO (srry guys lol)
swaps are easier, you have SUPER clean body and wheels
and there are small things that you will appreciate on your eg, like the sunroof, rear backseat area, and how damn light the car is!

Yeah sell the eg and get a swapped eg or ek or ef or whatever you like but with a swap its someone else loss is your gain
