Does the 96 civic have a remote?
I was wondering does a 1996 Honda Civic EX Coupe without ABS have a keyless entry remote/alarm? If so, can I get a remote since the I bought this car as a used one and didn't come with one. I'm a bit annoyed with opening the door by keys since it won't open most of the time
Have you tried a cheap alarm that will unlock with remote?
Installed for $79 bucks if you know a cheap shop. Plus its SOME sort of security

I can't really find any cheap shop for installation. I've been looking for deals at Fry's or Best Buy but can't find any. Usually at Fry's it's $100 but says "keyless optional".
I googled a lot about keyless entry standard, it does come with the 96 civic I guess, but without the stock head unit doesn't work right?

Anyone know where I can get an alarm installed for around $100-$150 alarm included? I'm trying to go locally which is the 831 area, but don't mind going up to Bay Area. I know somewhere in SF doing it for $109 installed but it's a bit too far and it's closed most of the time when I'm not busy xD

Correct. You have to leave the stock head unit in the car for the keyless to work. Many people plug the head unit in, program the keyless remote then remove the face of the radio. That way, you don't have to worry about it re programming itself. It gets tucked behind the dash and there is a harness made to do this.
You'll also notice your dome light probably doesn't work if you don't have the factory radio installed. Re installing your OEM radio or simply tying a few wires together behind the dash will make them work again.

I'm really tired of opening the door by key since it is 50% chance of unlocking the door and 75% chance of locking the door.
i don't think that is one with the two way pager is it? either way a little security is money well spent for the peace of mind.
jsut remember that getting security is good, but a poor installation will negate even the most expensive security system. check out VegaS10 he has links in his sig for some of his great alarm installs.

You cant simply add a pager to a one way alarm. You have to get a 2 way alarm.
As for the trunk release, auto start, window roll down etc. theyre all charged by the hour of labor plus adiitional parts needed. So check with your shop

Here in the US the '96-'98 remotes are different than the '99-'00 remotes though.
I have heard of this with newish GM vehicles but not Hondas.
I will do that this day , i will get back with ecu code ... the car i think is JDM made, the chasis number start with : JHMEK4....i thought that the 99-00 si (B16A) would be simillar to the european EK4 (B16A)
The chassis number starting with JHMEK4 just means it was built in Japan. It's doesn't mean it's JDM.
Are you mildly f**king retarded? Why have some hole in the wall shop hack up the under dash of his car with some sh*t box alarm

This was an option in 96, best bet is to take it to a dealership and have them tell you if you have it! If you do then they can sell you a remote and you can program it (or they can) If not then you buy the keyless entry box from the dealer and your home free!
Im having this same problem. The old owner cut the oem wire harness and put in a oem deck and it dose not even work PLUS i dont think its from my 98 sedan!
Im going to honda tomorrow to see what is up!
