Brief history 1993 honda 180k miles bought after previous owner had left sitting in driveway for 3 years. Replaced all fluids...had problem with D4- found burnt resistor on TCM board. Havent replaced it yet. Car was running fine...had small exhaust leak and idled a little rough,. Changed distributor cap rotor and plugs. ran for a month or so. 100miles approx

This is a learning car for my daughter who is getting her license. We came home one day after driving, parked the car. Everything was normal.

Next afternoon I go to start the car and it turns over, but stuttering and sputtering...wont stay on unless i keep foot on the accelerator...tons of exhaust coming from back and engine compartment when i rev it high. Sounds AWFUL ... wont stay running. very very rough. I removed and checked my installation on my distributor and rotor, even tho it ran fine with it for serveral weeks. ....This is all out of the blue. Sounds like its definaltey misfiring...i checked all the plug wires and they are snug.

Any ideas on where to go from here? Thank you SO much !

What color is the smoke that comes out of the engine bay and tailpipe?

I hope it's not a head gasket and it ends up being something small.
