Violent Jerking
Hi,
Since I've had my car I've had this issue and I'm finally fed up, I have b18b with stock ls tranny and I have pretty bad rocking/hesitation from about 1-2.2k only under certain accel and decel situtuations, higher rpms are totally smooth. I am almost 99% sure its not a engine issue (timing, sensors or whatever), I was thinking backlash on the differential is way off and at those accel/decel situations the speed of the gears are close but since the backlash is off its hitting and letting go to cause this back and forth shaking. Its almost like when you first try to drive a stick and you suck, you let out the clutch and the car's rocking back and forth cause its about to stall, its that kinda movement just not quite as violent and not on the brink of stalling. Anyone have any ideas, its pretty annoying Thanks

sorry i was busy for a while. idle is totally fine, i'm 1000% sure its drivetrain. would worn bearings in the axles cause this? i'll have to pull off my axle and check it out its really annoying. civic racer89, flywheel theory sound interesting as well, but it pulls hard under pretty much every throttle conditions so hmmmm. i'm lost. i'll check the axles, then maybe look into an lsd and some new gears
when does it rock back and forth, during cruise mode (no throttle movement) , or gradual (steady)acceleration, or during on/off throttle operation, or deceleration? Will it do it with the clutch in or out? What gears and speeds? If you can say what you are doing with the throttle when the problem is occuring, it would help too. If it is happening when you are not changing the throttle position, it is the engine managment, not the trans.

ok i'll try my best to explain. cruising is fine, it is mostly slower acceleration conditions, 1-3 gear is the worst, its pretty much is minimal in 3rd though. its just at lower speeds. if i just idle in 1st or 2nd (rolling) and then i just hit the throttle a little is when it will do it worst, also when i'm at maybe 3-4k in 1-3 gear and just totally release throttle it will jerk back and forth (not as strongly as lower gears) for a little bit until the car slows down. usually if it starts doing rocking at those certain throttle positions of like 20% or so at lower speed 1-2 gear i can shift to third and i can accelerate a little and it will stop. if i am in a parking lot for example in 1st or 2nd and accelerating slowly toward a stop sign i have to keep it at around 3k to keep it from rocking, if i let off at that rpm then it will start. So to sum it up it is accel from 1-2k rpm in 1-2 mainly and and sudden accel off from 1-3k rpm 1-3 gear. once clutch is in it stops of course. hope that clears it up a bit.
I have the exact same issue. My torque mounts are shot, I have a brand new clutch and flywheel. I would inspect your torque and main mounts. It can dramatically change your engine jerking.
same thing has happend to me.... but i thought it was my clutch slipping. its only when im starting and im halfway off the clutch/on the throttle. i posted a thread on here but no one really said anything im about to buy a new clutch so i thought it was my shitty autozone clutch or i didnt resurface my flywheel

hey guys, this is my life fail for not resolving this yet, but i've been busy with college two jobs blah blah. anyway i pulled my torque mounts off and they were done for. i'm went to fill them with poly urethane but i ran into a new problem. the metal inserts that are in the mounts, are way bigger than the bolt that comes out from the mount from the engine side. really sucks, its new years day, every things closed and i only have this weekend to get things done to my car b4 classes start again! @#^&!
hey bro i got this prob with my dc2 aswell.. im not running torque mounts though as i have billet innovate poli engine mounts.. its very similar to what happens with 4wd motors when your in a low gear like cruising in traffic it starts jurking and i have to dip the clutch in..
ok, i just threw out my energy suspension inserts and put in innovate mounts the 75a black ones and it pretty much stopped. wish i wouldve bought these in the first place, they're awesome! I still have a realllllly small bit of jerking but its very minimal and not very noticable. when i tested it out i didnt even have the torque mounts on. I'm still going to fill my torque mounts with poly urethane (windo weld) if some one can help me clear up the issue i was talking about in my last post. heres a pic for reference. The extension represents the bolt/mount thingy that comes from the motor.

This would basically render the torque mount useless...
