Tie Rod Bolt Spins!
hi guys...I am having trouble tightening the tie rod nut (crown nut) to the tie rod bolt. It came up halfway using a impact gun, now it just spins with the nut as I tighten it. Any suggestions of trouble shooting this without buying a new one? -Any advice would be much appreciated!
Commonly the tie rod bolt is a tapered stud (which fits the appropriate mating taper on your vehicle). If you hold your tie rod down with enough strength, maybe you can keep it from spinning... it really depends on how badly the nut is secured to the threads.
I had to all-out replace my tie rod due to this issue.

The taper keeps the stud from turning.
If the taper is dirty, it will spin easily.
Clean the stud and the hole it goes into with brake parts cleaner.
Allow time for cleaner to evaporate.
Insert the stud into the hole.
Apply some force to get the taper to 'grab' while you slowly turn the nut with a wrench or preferably a ratchet.
Do not use air, it will only break the taper friction.

my rear lower ball joints were spinning, but after i caught them on a angle with the electrical impact wrench the nuts caught and started turning. you might want to try that, it worked for me..
