Last nite i was driving home from Jack n the Box at 1am. Three cops followed me and eventually pulled me over for tint. When he pulled me over he also popped my hood saying he had the right to since i had an aftermarket exhaust. Well he refereed my car since i had a B20 with headers, intake, and exhaust. I cant drive my car anymore until i get a SOHC swap and pass smog at a ref station. I was wondering if anyone has any advice, if their are any loop holes, or if you have been state refed themselves and what you did.

 

Nope no loop holes. Just swap it and there that's all to it. ******** are gona be ********. I got a ref appointment on friday and it's gona be my 3rd time back.

your looking at this the wrong way. just swap in an LS. you already have everything else done. your just replacing the actual motor itself

 

just go to court say your guilty and pay the fee.my friend did that 6 times already,she gots a boosted b20.

 

I can pass with an LS? Wouldn't they know thats not supposed to be in there? When they smog i thought they run your cars make and original engine that comes with it?

 

I heard the fine is around $1000+ how much did your friend pay?

 

they arent gonna smog. what the ticket should say is something like illegal swap. which pretty much means your car isnt BAR'ed so you need a stock motor. but if the ref sees an LS then he can BAR your car at the same time and write off your ticket.

 

Yeah my ticket says mod engine. If i can get my B20 stock with stock exhaust manifold and stock airbox or carb legal intake i should be able to clear also right?

 

No, because its a B20.

 

correct. you will fail if you go in to the ref station with a b20. thats why i said swap in an LS or any other b18 motor.

If your car is wired up OBD0, swap in a B18A1. If OBD1, put a B18B1. That's your cheapest/easiest solution. And with the correct ECU and emissions gear, you will have a legal swap

Actually if plead guilty and willing to pay the ticket, it cost $470 buks.

Same fawk^&*in shietzzz happened to me few months ago, I was driving around 8pm in Compton here in So Cal looking for gas station and My speed was 25-30mph in local area.I seen 5.0 by the intersection, out of nowhere he stopped me for no reason, gave me ticket for loud exhaust and modified emissions.

And I was argued with the police officer, what did i do? I wasnt speeding, do you see my fuel gauge?The low fuel light on, I need, I gotta have gas soon.

And he wrote me ticket for exhaust and made me popped the hood... he turn on his flashlight look around under the hood, and I was like..WTF???

And I asked him, why you pulled me over for? Modifed exhaust??? I've seen harley davidson with faw&*(ed loudest muffler or big SUV truck with rummbled exhaust, you guys dont bother them..

and he just ... dont say shietz... just be carefull honda guys out there, specially now.. CA no money more cops out there looking for $$$$.

 

the b20 is considered a truck motor an ls is the way to go...... good luck cause ive tried twice and still didnt pass on my friends car

 

I live in San Bernadino CA its been getting way to hot over here. I got busted twice for not doing anything last time at a local meet.

 

just throw in an LS and call it a day. since i reffed my car about 4yrs ago, ive had no worries except that im 1/2 inch below the legal limit. other than that nothing. ive had my hood popped 2 times and the cop glances over everything and i tell him "wanna see my BAR sticker?" and he will tell me no, its ok. and im on my way

 

$470 thats not as much as i thought it would be im kinda tempted to pay that i just need to cut my muffler and take off my tint so they dont have another reason to stop me

 

I love Cali's weather but the restrictions are so f-ed up. I don't have to pass emmissions where I'm at. I could be driving a tank or a rocket engined car and it would be legal

yup we gotta play smart than cop now, dont show them those big tip or SHINY looking exhaust.Their eyes(Cops eyes) like fawk&*(ing, seen ghost from far away.. LOL

Or if you need it spray those muffler, tip, exhaust piping with VHT black spray can, those paint will hold up to 2000F. You can get these VHT spray paint from Kragen, autozone or Pepboys.

The point is just make the muffler look stock from the back, Good luck.

 

In order to ref your car, have a legal swap (motor same year or newer out of same type of vehicle) hook up all emissions components, then go to the ref station. Exhaust doesn matter how shiny it is or dull it is a modified exhaust is still easy to spot. Just male sure your exahust meets the decible requirments (loud exhasut are no good a quiet exhasu will work) and your set.


Do it right the first time

 

if your stop, just say your hood cant pop open or just plead the 5th
