Default My 89 Dx hatch build

So ive been on here for awhile and never made a build thread before, so heres my 89 Dx hatch that ive had for just over a year now

The day it came home, payed 450 for it

the interior was DESTROYED

motor only needed a clutch and new water pump, other than that ran fine

picked up a few parts to start cleaning it up. Both corners were cracked, and the steering wheel was a mess

started stripping some of the interior out

the guy was a heavy smoker, i found holes in the carpet, and ash and cig butts every where in the car, i pulled all the parts out and they REAKED of smoke

and the crap i found under the covers

picked up a SI cluster from the yard and installed my custom eg radio I had

I replaced the hood with one from a CRX at the yard, and pulled the bent bumper, filler, broken headlight and inspected the damage

got some of the new parts installed

and picked a set of these up for 200 shipped

then stripped the purple tint cleaned it up a bit, added the STD back piece and lowered it on my old Dropzone coils

insurance hooked me up with a new windshield for free (thank you florida!)

for x-mas my now ex g/fs mom bought me a set of WeatherTech window visiors

picked up some black with red-stich shift and e-brake boots, and also a new center console

in the process of this build i put together a Ls motor from parts

then i finally decided it was time for a full interior cleaning

fully gutted (minus dash and door panels)

the next day me and a friend scrubbed the interior clean all day

after everything was cleaned up this is how i drove it for a few months (i put the other seat back in after 2 months)

i only have the back part of the seats cause i had my cargo cover and tools in the hatch and i was still living at school and didnt want my **** broken into and stolen for those...

my buddy gave me a set of 14inch steelies with is caps, but that didnt last long cause one was bent, and the lugs he gave me, 2 broke my studs.

fixing said broken studs...

i picked up a NA VW lip a few months back and finally picked up some hard ware and installed it

got tired of the white on white moldings (WAS BEGGING FOR SOME CONTRAST!!)

Then i got some more work done on the motor, picked up swap parts to prep it to fit in the bay and everything

i picked up some new coils from a friend put them on and ended up having to do a mismatch setup. the ride currently still has the Dropzone 500 rates in the front and unknown crappy coils in the rear.

picked up a rear Si sway bar from the junkyard. ive yet to install it.

the day i parked her 5-23-08 for the swap (that in the end will take 3 months to finish)

yanked the motor

cleaned the bay

at this point i was waiting on parts, was bored, and it was raining all day so i ended up tucking my rear interior harness

at this point i did the swap, ran into SEVERAL problems. The mounts were for a DA not a b-series swap (put the tranny and oil pan on the GROUND), after i figured that out i ordered ebay cheapos, then the wiring for the car was custom done from a friend and in the end it turned out the jumper harness i was givin was wired WRONG...so i figured that problem out and fixed it. Then i got the car to start and turn on and then found out the headgasket was trashed... ordered a new one from honda (will never go aftermarket on those again) then i couldnt get the car to idle damn near at all. in the end i replaced just about everything and adjusted everything. still couldnt get it to run and parked it.

since i needed a car to get to and from school i went and picked up a 91 camaro 305 (biggest mistake of my life) drove that around for awhile, started developing problems and tryed to kill me a few times. At this time i had the hatch for sale and no one would ever come through with the deal, so she stayed parked.

One day i stepped back outside to the hatch replaced the last few things i had and she worked like a charm. turned out to be the injectors... once i had it running it had a nervous tick in it, and ended up needing a valve lash adjustment.

after a few of the changes trying to get it to run.

a shot of how shes looked like since the swap

since i had the camaro i lost my parking spot when my sister got her car... i had to park on the street. i woke up one morning to go to the junkyard...and walked out to this. I had pulled it out already but just imagine the edge of the fender at the inside of my tire...

Then i finally got around to finish cleaning my interior, i ripped the crappy panels i had on it, washed my old blue ones, and washed the doors themself

then my friend gave me his old teg shfiter and i ripped the crappy leather wrapping off and installed it

the most up to date pic of my bay. Im now limping it around cause the Headgaskets blown. the sleeves are strached and still hasnt run right since day one, so next month im pulling it out and installing a new motor, and giving my friend this one.

i borrowed a friends cam for these shots

recently i picked up a brand new avid shift linkage to replace my old worn out hasport that was sold to me, it came with some ES shifter bushings.

this brings me up to date on the car currently.

my future plans
Innovative 65a bushing steel mounts
Jdm b20b
rebuild my A1 transmission
reinstall my A/c components
Fix the interior water leaks (all window seals)
Function and Form type 1 coilovers (10k/6k)
start collecting misc interior parts
Recaro SRD3 black seats
install my Ek side skirts
Install my Rear lip
pick up some 15inch wheels (aiming for OEM like Ls webs)

thats all for now. ill post when i have more updates.

just a little update. no school and boredum strikes, so i ended up doing this.

my old coupes oem radio broke 2 nights ago, it stopped changing channels when the lights were on, then it just stopped changing channels all together. so i wired up my g/fs old radio i pulled from her VW.

the fogs ive had since the beginning of the year. i lost them for awhile, and found them last night and ended up wiring and mounting them. i kinda screw the mounting points up i was going for a replica of another car (should of looked at the pic instead of using my memory).

will have another update next week :-D

yea i had it for sale for a few months.

meh it fun seeing peoples jaw drop when i pull on them in my beat hatch lol.

but im not to worried about the look right now, once i find a MINT driver side fender then ill paint match everything, and respray the hood and bumpers black.

just took the car for a spin with the new fogs..cant even see my headlights...damn i need new headlamps. fogs are bright as hell. they are the advance 20 dollar ones. im prob gona pull them off again when its not raining and work on straightening out the focus.

2nd swap this year started yesterday at 2pm and will be done friday when my new innovative mounts come in. Got home from my last final at 10, friend dropped the hoist off, went an hour down south and picked up the b20b came home and yanked the LS out and dropped the b20 in the same night.

my crazy friend helpin me out

and his new motor behind mine

the b20 looks so much nicer in there

all i have to do is hook everything up, im just waiting for the mounts so its not difficult. my putting my new avid linkage/bushings/shifter in today, need to extend the fan switch, from the back of the block to the thermostat housing, and bolt everything back on. should be running friday whenever the mounts come in

its done it runs im freakin happy. 3 days to swap it in. damn im good.

havnt even givin it 1/2 throttle and it beats the LS in every way. the mounts are awesome, still get motor vibrations but not as bad anymore. the linkage with the new shifter/bushings is just amazing best feeling shifter ive had ever! getting the tune updated sunday. anyone want to donate some 14/15inch steelies or rims?

these arrived at 3pm

then after getting it all bolted up and wired i went and bought new oil around 9:30. filled it all up turned it over and fired right up with no hesitation.
