Default Timing question using conversion harness

My question is , if you convert to obd1(p28), my car is a 88 si, how would you go about getting the p28 to go into diagnostic mode to set timing once you either repin the ECU connector or get a conversion harness?. Would anything change? Or do I just jump the connector in the engine bay as usuall. Ive searched and come out empty handed.
