Icon3 Ef motor HUGE PROBLEM HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!

I have a Ef hatch still rockin' the dualpoint (i know i know) but i was cruzin down the highway and out of nowhere i lose power.....i push the gas and keep decelerating......i heard a few pops (i think backfire) and had to come to a stop. Motor shut off as soon as i stopped. It turns over but no start and still the popping sound after every 4-6 cranks. Have no idea what the problem is and don't have the time or money for screwing around with it. Also when it turns over the cam gear rotates backwards half a turn or so after you let off the key. WTF is wrong with this piece of a motor?

x2. it definitely sounds like a spark issue. my old b16 rex did the exact same thing last year, car shut off when i was getting on the interstate. had no power at all. i tried cranking and i heard some backfire coming out of the intake. turned out my screw in the rotor button had fallen out.

Ok thanks. I will have to check that out. I had some idea it was an ignition problem. My buddies are trying to tell me it had ceased up, doubted it cuz it turns over fine. But if i still have problems you'll see my post real soon lol....Again thank you for your input.
