Default So I walk into the service dept today...

So I walk into a service department today with my ITR for an oil change ($42+ rape is fun)

but..the service advisor said to me "we havent seen one of these for several years now... hang on i'll let you know how much 60k maintenance is... *proceeds to call someone*"

it sucks not to have a garage. was it wrong to let someone molest my vehicle for an oil change? First one I havent done since buying her in 1999 =(

yeah man $42 isnt a bad price, you would have spend at least $30 on oil alone if you did it yourself plus filter so whats another $12.

AND....Would you want some hack that makes $6 an hour changing your oil? They probably have at least a $15-$20 an hour tech doing the work, so that also jacks up the price...
Be glad you dont have to pay for an oil change for a porsche. Its about $200...
You can do the 60K yourself, but itll prob take all afternoon without a lift...

I own an oil change/smog shop in Reno and I see more mistakes on cars that were previously done at a dealership than any other oil shop. Maybe up there with Walmart in regards to mistakes. Loose drain plugs, filters, not changing air filters when they charged the customer, etc, etc. I'd only go to the stealership if I had a warranty problem. Try to find an independent Honda/Acura garage to do the 60/90/105k mile service, they'll use OEM Honda parts and be cheaper, usually.

^bad experiences with dealerships im assuming? I work at a Honda dealership and I have only made 1 mistake while working there for the past 2 years. And as for the not changing filters, those must be shady people because I've never even thought about doing that. What would it benefit me not changing a filter? It only takes 2 minutes to do, and why would I risk my job not changing something so simple?

I'll always help you.

PS will be working on 01-1037 this Thursday just to get her back on the road for fun. Lemme know what you need, you know I'll always help in any way I can.

$42 isn't so bad nowadays, atleast your car doesn't require almost 9 quarts of 0w40 full synthetic like a srt10 dodge ram.

That really sucks.

At least it is hard to screw up an oil change.

If you walk into Wal-Mart and buy five one-quart bottles of Mobil 1, with tax it's going to cost you around $30. If you buy a case (six one-quart bottles) at Sam's Club or Costco, with tax you're up around $35 or so. So $42 including the filter and labor isn't a bad price, if they're using synthetic oil.

Of course, you can also walk into Wal-Mark, buy a five-quart jug of Pennzoil Platinum (full synthetic) for $20, and get $15 back from their mail-in rebate, so the oil costs you $5...

(I know our cars don't need five quarts. The manual says they need 4.2 quarts, which means you have to buy five and have most of a quart left over for next time. I find that 4.0 quarts actually works better and just fills to the top dot on the dipstick.)

I actually have no problems at any dealership, cause I've never had to deal with them since my dad has owned a shop since I was still sh*ting my pants. It might be Reno dealerships, but mistakes do happen. From working around flat rate guys my whole life, I constantly hear them bitching about getting taking off of "gravy" jobs to do basic lube/oil/filters. The American dealerships are the worst around here for that sh*t. I mean, $1200 for a 30k mile service on a Jeep Liberty, c'mon.

Yup, he very clearly stated it's the first one he hasn't done since 1999 (meaning hasn't done himself), not the first one he has done.
