CRX with gsr block/b16 head swap.

went cruising for a couple hours tonight. got home, shut my car off and i heard a humming noise. like my exhaust was humming. the noise persisted for a few minutes and then slowly faded away about the time i flipped on my electric fan. when i heard the humming noise i disco'd the negative battery cable to see if that changed anything. nope. still humming. like i said... slowly faded away.

SO... 3 options.
im paranoid.
there was an airplane slowly flying away overhead that i could not see.
my car is possessed by demons.

what do you guys think? lol.

 

humming as in a Vacuum leak?

 

no.. no. i dont believe this was a vacuum leak. it was a pretty loud almost vibrating noise. like my exhaust but quieter... and it slowly faded away. my car still starter thismorning. lol. i am beginning to think im paranoid.... but my friend heard it too. we both were like WTF.

 

where exactly is it coming from?

 

i couldnt figure that out! stuck my head in the engine compartment... a little louder in there... almost underneath the car. it was the wierdest thing ever. we walked away from the car. and the noise faded. the closer we got the louder it became.

 

this is what ti sounded like: BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV................... ...

slowly faded away over the course of about 5 minutes.... not extremely loud but almost a deafening humm.... vibrated my brain kind of..... lol.

i know. you think im crazy but this really happened. even i think im crazy.

dude wtf. did it again tonight. even had my dad listen to it. same thing. creepy. sounds like the center under the dash maybe.... could it be a heater core issue? like i said, i disconnected the negative battery cable the first time it happened and the noise continued.

 

like somebody hit a GIANT tuning fork. could it be pressure? almost sounds like speaker feedback....

 

hey guys. my driveway is gravel and has potholes and puddles. i know its ridiculous for a honda owner, a lowered honda owner at that, to have to drive these conditions daily at 1mph.

heres my thought: drove my car down my driveway through the puddles to work today while the car was cold. when i got to work and turned off my car, no humming noise occurred. drove home the same exact way and drove through the puddles with the motor and exhaust hot. do you think its possible that water gets in the exhaust and with the heat it is evaporating in my exhaust and creating pressure and causing a sound? kind of a wild idea....

 

You could always try warming your car in your driveway and then shutting it off to see if you hear the sound, then immediately turn it on again, drive it out and then back up your driveway (through the puddles) and then shut it off and see if it makes the noises.

Edit: also, are there any accessories that you use getting home that you don't use going to work (e.g. AC)?

 

ill try that. and no. i used heat both times. and the car doesnt have AC. no headlights to work, but headlights from work. but thats not the problem.

 

Do you have HID'S?

 

Had the same problem with my s13. No idea what it was and there were too many problems with the car for me to worry about it. then again it couldve been something that was causing all of the problems....anyways i sold that car. good luck

 

its water in the exhaust. acts as a big tea kettle with only one small 3" exit.

 

jack up your car and see if anything is loose underneath

OMG - I am having the EXACT same issue with my Accord. I have noticed this humming noise for several months but though it was coming from outside. Last night, my boyfriend and I decided to find out where it was coming from so we opened the garage and realized immediately it was coming from the car. It was happening about every 2 to 3 minutes so we listened closely to find out where on the car it was coming from and it sounded like it was from underneath the car. Our first thought was to get the car out of the garage and as far away from the house as possible. We are totally paranoid and are scared to even get near it much less drive it.

Have you had any luck finding out what it is????

 

lol. dont be scurred. my driveway has TONS of potholes because its gravel. (i drive VERY slowly and carefully). but when there is water sone times it will get up in side the exhaust. after i shut off the car, the heat from the exhaust is just boiling off that water and it resonates and makes noise through the exhaust. dont worry. just hop in your car and give it some revs to get the water out of there. its just a big tea kettle.

if there are no puddles and your car is still doing this, then its possessed.

 

The same thing happened with my Accord a few nights ago. After shutting off the engine, my boyfriend and heard a strange humming which we thought was coming from outside. We then figured out it was coming from the car. The noise lasts for about a minute, stops, then a few minutes later it starts again, getting quieter and shorter each time. The noise comes from the left side, underneath the car. My boyfriend thinks it might be the fuel pump.

Anyone have any ideas??

 

i think i agree with ur boyfriend. im 80% sure its just the fuel pump 20% sure its possessed by a demonic thing lol

 

Thanks Dr.Sleepy. Was hoping that would not be the problem did not want to have to go through the hassle of replacing the darn thing.

I almost wouldn't mind if it was possessed..... lol

Well I just stumbleld across this ill have too say im havin the same problem :/ I hear that noise all the time but just ignore it its that vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv kind high mid pitched I never came too know what it was some what thought
