My car is not starting, but will crank. Sometime it sounds like the engine goes for one or two rotation, but then dies. YOu can hear the fuel pump prime when the key is in position 2, and it smells flooded after a few attempts so I think the fuel rack is getting fuel.

I just tried a new main relay which didnt result in much change.

Any other ideas.

 

you say the engine rotates about a two times,(is this while your cranking it) but then dies, sure its not just the battery??

 

Check for spark at the plugs. Any CEL codes?

 

There is spark, as well as new plugs. Not sure about CEL codes. I know there is no code faults when you jump the test terminal over by the glove box.

When I say it rotates one or two times, it is as if the car has started because I have turned the key back from start, in it kind of just stalls out. But on other start attempts it just doesn't seem to catch, and will just crank away.

 

How did this problem come about?

Is spark at the plugs bright white or weak orange or blue?

Is the mechanical timing off?

Have you measured cylinder compressions?

 

take cap off the dizzy and check the rotor. just cause it has spark doesnt mean its at the correct time.

 

does it seem to crank faster than normal.
just asking cause you said on other attemps it just cranks away. may be your timing belt. but if it has started but then stalls it couldnt be the belt but maybe a timing issue.
any work done recently?
