Radio volume goes crazy when raising or lowering it. Resolution?
I have a 2000 civic si and my oem radio doesnt respond well to the volume ****. When I try to turn it up it takes a while because it acts erratic itll go down instead of up, or spike up really quickly and then back down. I end up turning it for a while to raise the volume. Same thing happens if I try to lower it. If I don't touch the **** everything is fine. Anyone had a similar experience?
I had the same exact problem with the volume **** on the stock radio in my 97 Civic. I noticed the problem at least for the last couple of years, and assumed it was a design flaw in the volume control. Last week, one of the light bulbs in the heater control panel died, so I needed to replace it. By the way, to remove the heater control panel and access the blown bulb, the radio had to come out first. So I replaced the bulb and reinstalled everything back into the dash. I am happy to say that the bulb now illuminates the heater control panel, but an additional unexpected benefit of the job has been that the radio volume **** now works like new. Of course, I don't know why this is so. Perhaps one of the terminals in the connector at the rear of the radio was making poor contact and unplugging and replugging the connector restored good contact. I may never know.
